[OPEN] Death rays are a girl's best friend....

Who: Agatha Heterodyne and you

What: A new arrival in the city takes charge of her situation
Warnings: SCIENCE! (Also action brackets because I am the laziest ever.)

[Agatha is blaming the strange dream on a side effect of lack of sleep and suddenly being shoved through Tweedle's ridiculous door. Right now the question is where that door has taken her. And what happened to the other three people who fell through it with her. Tweedle could be lost in time and space forever and she wouldn't care, but Violetta and Krosp she was a little concerned about. Not to mention the state of things in Mechanicsburg. But there wasn't much she could do about that now. First things first though, she needed a weapon....

So people who happen to be near some of the darkened warehouses may hear strange sounds coming from one of the alleyways. Clanking metal, odd whirring noises, crashing sounds. Those that dare to venture closer will find a woman holding what appears to be some sort of gun made from various bits of scrapped machinery. Her back is to the mouth of the alley, so she hasn't noticed anyone yet. She twists a small dial on the side of the gun and fire it at the trash dumpster. The alley is bathed in a bright flash of light, and when it fades the dumpster is nowhere to be found. Agatha nods in satisfaction.]

Could use some work, but it'll do for now.

Well. It's the thirteenth hour, so, right after midnight.

I mean, you can stay inside if you want during that time. That's what I do. But in order to train your Persona, you kind of need to use it as best as you can.

Train my.. what?

What has no one told you? [A sigh.] Ergh, fine. It's...how to explain this. A part of your mind becomes a sentient creature which protects you from monsters.

Don't ask me how it works.

I... see...

[Honestly she thinks her mind already has enough extra sentient parts thank you very much.]

But I think I'll just stick to more traditional ways of dealing with monsters.

[She pats the death ray.]

[A shrug.]

Whatever floats your boat. But...other people have Personas too. Most of them aren't really weak against traditional weapons, you know.

You mean people use these things to attack each other?

[That figures. It's a rare weapon that actually is only used to fight monsters.]

[He nods.] Oh, definitely. I mean, we even have some tournaments featuring that sort of thing. Besides, not everyone is so nice...we got some bad apples around who have Personas too. There's a group called the Anoli...they've been stirring up trouble every now and then.

Anoli?

[Hmm...]

Someone else I talked to mentioned a war. These... anoli wouldn't happen to be the other side of that conflict, would they?

[He gulps, looking nervous.] Y-yeah. There was a big tournament a while ago, and they just came in and started killing people left and right...they're definitely dangerous. The problem is, no one knows where to find them. They just pop up when no one expects them and then disappear when whatever horrible thing they did is over.

So we can't do anything about them until we find their base of operations....

[She makes a mental note to get to work on that problem as soon as she can get to a proper lab.]

For now, I'll just have to keep an eye out.

[Then she smiles and offers her hand in greeting.]

Thanks for putting up with all these questions. I'm Agatha Heterodyne, it's nice to meet you.

No..we don't even know where to start. The government has been looking all over, but hasn't found a thing.

[He blinks, before realizing that OH THERE IS A HAND HE MUST SHAKE THE HAND. He sheepishly smiles as he gives her a handshake in return, though it's not exactly a nice one; his hand is cold and clammy, as if he's had it in an ice bucket for a few minutes before this conversation.]

N-no problem! Just trying to help out. I'm Sam. Sam Erstwhile. That's an interesting name, Heterodyne...um, where are you from?

[She very politely does not mention the cold, clammy hand. The poor guy did seem a little nervous, after all.]

I'm from Beetleburg. My family is from Mechanicsburg though. Both of which are in a different world so I'll understand if you haven't heard of them.

What about you? Where are you from?

Mechanicsburg? That's...an interesting name. And different worlds, really? Like, "alternate dimension" world or "different world in my universe" world?

Ah, well...I'm from Earth. America, to be exact. Which is kind of a big country, but, um...I don't really stay in one place there for long. I'm kind of a nomad.

You haven't heard about this? That other girl I talked to made it sound like common knowledge....

I've been told that everyone here was pulled in from different worlds. Is that not the case?

[AGH frick frick frick he misunderstood. He lets out an awkward laugh, looking embarrassed.]

Ergh, no, sorry, I get it now. I thought you said those two places were in different worlds and...I'm sorry. No, no, we're all from different worlds. It's pretty weird, but I guess you get used to it after a while.

Oh, I see! Sorry....

[Now it's her turn to look embarrassed. Maybe subject change...]

So, did you say you were from America? There's a place in my world called America too. But it's the kind of place people tell stories about. I don't think I know anyone who has actually been there.

[He looks to the ground, as if self-conscious about what he's just done, but her next question makes him lift up his head. He looks intrigued.]

Yeah! Yeah, I'm from America. And really? What do they say about it where you come from? In your stories.

[She chuckles a little, recalling all the strange stories she heard as a child.]

Anything and everything. They say that there are giant, ancient creatures wandering the land. That there are very few people who have the spark, but the ones that do are at least ten times as strong as the sparks of Europa. The land is supposed to be full of marvelous inventions that most people could only dream of.

Well, I don't exactly believe all the stories. But I did like to hear them.

[He looks excited, really- hey, fairy tales were his favorite things to listen to and read, even if they were about a place that he knew didn't have any of those cool things.]

Those sound way better than what we actually had. No big ancient creatures...unless you're talking about the dinosaurs, and those died a long time ago. But...what do you mean by the spark?

Ah, sorry. You probably have a different name for it in your world.

[Let's see, what might they call it?]

Um, a gifted scientist? An intuitive mechanic?

A gifted scientist? Um, sure, we have a lot of those. You talk about it as if it's like an ability or something. As far as I know, people just study a lot of science and become one when they're considered good enough at it. It isn't something innate.

No, I mean....

Hmm, what's a nice way to put this? She's suddenly reminded of Dr. Glassvitch. Brilliant, hard working, years of experience, but his career was capped by his lack of the spark. And of course Dr. Merlot. Same situation, but as he was a terrible, jealous, completely insufferable jerk she doesn't feel quite as bad about it.]

Someone who can... go beyond what a person could achieve from just hard work or study.

So...like the gift of genius, right? A prodigy?

[That's the closest he can think of.]

Um... close enough.

[Could it be possible? Could they actually not have sparks in the world he came from? She can't even imagine a world like that.]

Alright. But that still sounds cool, though.

[He looks curious, tilting his head to the side with a questioning expression.]

Hey...you wouldn't happen to have this spark thing, would you? Or are you just a normal person from where you come from?
