[The creature almost appears to smile at Sarah's question.]

So she hasn't told you?

"Of course not. We worked together once. I'm not so arrogant that I'd think she owed me her tragic backstory over that."

She shifts a little to cover M'gann with her body.

"But the fact that you apparently know it what it is tells me that you probably had a hand in it, which means we're leaving. Now!"

As Sarah wheels around to grab M'gann, she throws down a flash grenade she had palmed from inside her coat. Hopefully the intense light it emits will distract the thing long enough for the two of them to get a headstart.

[The creature screeches and recoils at the flash. M'gann and Sarah are able to duck into an alley while it is confused. M'gann takes a second to regain some of her composure. She's still shaken, but at least now she can talk.]

I don't understand. How can that be here?

"Beats me."

There's a slight pause as she considers the alley.

"How do you want to deal with this?"

I don't really know. Fire works, I guess. The thing is...

[M'gann takes a long pause.]

That thing looks just like me.

Sarah pauses for a second - but only a second.

"Okay. Do you want to fight it, or should we keep running?"

[hello_mgann]

I think we have to fight it. As much as I want to run I can't let this thing stay in the city.

"Okay, but we need to regroup first. If we're going to be in a fight, I'll need my God Arc."

[hello_mgann]

Where is it, and can you get it quickly? I think I can distract this thing for a while, but I don't want to have to fight it alone.

Sarah pauses to think, calculating the distance.

"...hm. Never mind, then, it'd take too long. I'll have to make do."

She rolls up the sleeve of her jacket on her left arm and concentrates. Slowly, black and red scales start to form on her skin as her nails lengthen and sharpen - when it ends, her entire forearm has been transformed, with her scaly fingers now ending in wicked talons.

"Let's go."

[Seeing Sarah transforms sparks something in M'gann.]

Your arm, it looks so monstrous. Do people fear you because of it?

Sarah pauses.

"...sometimes, yes. I try not to let civilians see it. But my comrades - the people I fight beside and live with - they know, and they accept it. It's not the shape of your body that's important to the people that truly matter - it's the content of your character."

Looking M'gann directly in the eyes now.

"I don't care what you look like. You fought beside me, so I know what's in your heart."

[Sarah's words are exactly what M'gann needed to hear. She can't believe she has let her fear of rejection overcome her again. Just like her team back home, the people of this city were her friends and she had nothing to fear from them.]

Let's go get that thing!

Sarah smiles and nods, clenching her untransformed hand into a fist.

"I've got your back."

[hello_mgann]

[M'gann nods and heads around the corner to face her shadow. The creature is still raging in the street, but stops when it sees M'gann emerge.]

Have you returned to surrender?

[M'gann scowls.]

No, I'm not going to surrender to you. I'm here to fight.

[M'gann waves and summons her persona, Marvin the Martian.]

Might as well be formal about this.

"Tear down and devour even the gods! Fenrir!"

Sarah clenches her left fist, the spikes growing out of her knuckles snapping forward as she drops into a loose approximation of a boxing stance, a blue glow surrounding her as her Persona lopes into view with the sound of rattling chains.

[M'gann points at Sarah's approaching persona and gives an order.]

Tarukaja.

[M'gann's persona shoots a ray at Fenrir doubling its power.]

As Sarah lunges forward, leading with her left, she shouts a command to her Persona.

"Cleave!"

[hello_mgann]

[The now powerful physical attack rips into the white monster leaving it bloodied on its knees.]

This changes nothing. You can't deny who you are.

[M'gann smile at the beast]

You've got it wrong. Giving into you would be denying who I am. I'm not a monster or a freak. I'm M'gann, this is who I am, and everyone here knows it. They don't care what I look like because they know who I am. Twin shot!

[Marvin levels his ray gun at the shadow and lets off two shots, disintegrating the shadow before it can retort.]

"Well done."

Sarah shakes her left arm, returning it to normal.

"So. What now?"
