▼ A Feast of Shadows

Summary: The Shadow Event has begun! Follow the link for the event summary and post your threads here if you want. You're still free to make network posts of your own if you'd rather do that, though!
Warnings: Characters' darkest and most shameful secrets within, along with plenty of combat. Please mark any threads that will contain triggering content appropriately, since some characters have darker secrets than others.

Shadow Noda has been hiding away for a little while after sending a network post as a means of finding the whereabouts of his original. But even the timid shadow would get desperate to take its original's place. So after a few days, the shadow gets out of his hiding place to find the original to replace.

Normal Noda, on the other hand, has been searching for his shadow self. When he saw his shadow take his identity and make that network post, he was furious and embarrassed. Being a scardy-cat was the last thing he wanted to be, not to mention spewing his feelings out like that.

When he finds his shadow counterpart, he sees the shadow self wandering down the street, cowering at the smallest things.

"YOU!!"

When someone passes by the scene, you'd see an angry Noda grabbing the collar of the scared-looking lookalike, shaking him as he yells.

Oh dear. She isn't entirely sure what's going on, but either way, she can tell that it's going badly. By now, it's become more than clear that, as usual, fighting isn't the answer - especially when it is in fact a facet of yourself.

She begins to run, keeping the blade of her naginata pointed towards the ground. Once she's close enough, she calls out.

"Wait-- Noda, please, stop!"

"What do you want!!" Noda hollers as he whirls around to look at Aoi. He freezes for a moment as the shadow version whimpers, in which he lets go of the grip only to stand before Aoi to block the view of the shadow.

"Do not look!! Leave!!! I have this under control!!"

The shadow, on the other hand, cowers to the normal Noda's yelling.

Her run slows to a walk as she nears, before she finally stops in front of the two.

"...That person behind you... It's your Shadow, isn't it?" She's seen a few of them already. It's not all that hard to guess.

"I said do not look!!" Noda yells once again, shoving the shadow away from himself, making the shadow fall down to the floor. "Why are you here?! Do not look at this imposter!!"

The shadow counterpart, on the other hand, after hitting the floor, looks up at Aoi and the regular self with a scared look.

"Please, don't say that." There's an urgency to her voice. "I know it's difficult-- no, not just difficult. Having a part of you that you don't want to acknowledge brought out for everyone to see--"

It must be embarrassing. Humiliating. Shameful.

"--But please, don't deny him. Even if a part of you is afraid... Even if a part of you yearns for friends..."

"...It's okay. I won't judge you for feeling that way. Even after hearing about everything from that Shadow... I still want to be your friend. I wouldn't leave you for something like that. And I'll do whatever I can to prove it."

She takes a tentative step closer, extending her free hand - to the both of them, really.

"I'm certain that Yuzuru and Hinata feel the same way. So please..."

"Don't just keep rejecting him like this-!"

Before the normal Noda can answer, the shadow counterpart gets up and quickly gets behind Aoi, trying to get away from the normal one.

"Aoi, the other me is scary. Why do you try to get him to admit me?"

When the person with the same face as him was acting the exact opposite of how he wanted to, it was hard to ignore it. In reaction, the normal Noda takes a step back at the sight.

"D-don't act like such a coward with my face!" Noda yells at the shadow, trying to gesture him to move away from behind Aoi. "Leave her alone! She has nothing to do with this!!"

He swings his halberd, pointing the blade at the shadow. "Move away from her!!"

She looks startled when the Shadow moves behind her, but she manages to stand her ground nonetheless.

"The two of you are the same person. You... both must understand that, right?" She isn't exactly moving to protect the Shadow here, worrying that the action may just enrage Noda all the more. But she's certainly ready to bring up a barrier if she needs to prevent a fight.

"Please, I'm begging you. Don't do this to yourself. You have to accept what you are...!"

"Accept what this sissy said!?" Noda blurts out in response. "I am not this weak! I am not a wuss!!!"

It's obvious Noda isn't going to be listening to anyone at all at this point, with the emotions preventing him from making any further rational decision. He gives a yell as he calls his persona out, sending an attack at the shadow's direction.

Aoi responds by creating a protective barrier against it. However, the moment the attack is over, she'll let it fall.

"Noda, please! Listen to me! You have to accept it!" She's pleading, hoping that somehow, her words will be able to reach him.

"It doesn't matter if you have times when you feel weak, or times when you're afraid-- that's what it is to be human. It can't be helped, but if you can accept that part of you--"

She pauses for just a moment.

"I believe... That is a type of strength, too."

By this point though, it was impossible to correctly comprehend what Aoi was trying to tell him. He wasn't even speaking coherently as he tries to throw another attack, although this time it is intercepted by his shadow.

"See Aoi, this me doesn't listen to a word someone's trying to say. So stubborn. Why do you want this me to accept how I am instead of letting me take his place?"

A small smile forms on the shadow's face as he moves away from Aoi and brings out the persona to send out more attacks. With how the original is now letting his anger take action, he isn't even trying to block the attack, and takes on the full damage.

"Noda, please!"

It comes out as a yell, though even as she speaks she begins summoning her own Persona. She reaches out for the Original Noda, touching his hand for just a moment--

((OOC: Right Livelihood (Touching any ally causes 5% of their total HP and SP to be restored every turn while in the presence of the Persona user. Healing out of battle takes about 6 hours for normal wounds.)))

Upon the touch, Noda snaps away from his anger as he jerks his hand away from Aoi, fear showing up on his face for a moment before looking away.

"Ah, see? We can't do anything on our own, me. Without Aoi helping out, you probably wouldn't be able to beat such a sissy like me...!" Shadow Noda speaks up again; his timid voice is gone, as he's showing some more confidence now, fueling from how the original was being so angry.

"That is not--!!" Noda was never good at keeping his own ground with just words.

"Are you forgetting that we're not in the afterlife anymore? Can't do much by yourself, burdening others to cover for you when there are fights because you can't fight smarter... you're going to get yourself killed again! Even I don't want to depend on a brute like you. I wonder if you were really helpful for Yurippe. But that worry can leave now. If I can be nicer, I can be more useful!"

With that said, the Shadow quickly summons his persona, sending it out to attack Noda again. With the powers increased, the attack does more damage than anticipated and the normal Noda staggers back.

(Double Fangs (Inflicts a small amount of Physical damage twice on one enemy.))

Aoi actually steps ahead of Noda here, her expression grim as she faces his Shadow.

"It's okay to depend on others. Trying to do everything by yourself--" She hesitates for just a moment before she continues: "Trying to do everything by yourself is impossible. That's why it's important to have others you know you can rely on...!"

She looks to the original Noda, looking somewhat regretful. "...I'll protect you from his attacks." She hates the idea of fighting here, but she doesn't want to just let Noda die, either. "Let me help you. I can hold back his attacks, so please, trust me with this...!"
