She stares down at her talons for several moments before answering.

"I stopped...kidding myself. No matter what happens, in the end it's all pointless...so why not just sit down and...wait patiently to die?"

"Because that's dumb and boring." Silly Sarah.

There's a flicker of...something in Sarah's golden eyes before she replies.

"Apathy is the only defense against despair."

[demifemme]

"No!" Shura sprang from the bench and planted her fists on her hips. "Apathy is giving up in the face of despair! You gotta struggle, fight until the end! If everyone gives up, there will never be change! Who cares if it's useless? I believe in miracles!"

There's definitely emotion in Sarah's eyes now - annoyance.

"You're just like her. Convinced that things can become better!"

[demifemme]

"Her who?"

"Sarah."

She stands up, her posture aggressive.

"She runs from the truth - the world is doomed, and nothing she does can save it. She'll just keep swinging her sword, convinced it'll make everything better, when there's nowhere to go but down."

[demifemme]

"That's because unlike you, Sarah hasn't forgotten what it's like to live! To have hope! To feel alive! Even in combat!"

"She doesn't have any of those things! All she has is relentless denial of reality! She can't live unless she pretends there's something left to save!"

It's angry now.

"But how would you know what it's like to live in a world that's already dead?"

[demifemme]

"Because I watched mine die, bitch!" Shura shouts before hissing angrily, like a snake ready to strike. This is going into ugly territory.

"Oh, so that's where it came from. You think there's still a chance - a little CPR and it'll pop right back up?"

The Shadow sneers as it rises fluidly to its feet.

"I was born on the world's corpse, inheritor of dust and ashes. Black dog, gaze upon yourself with horror and tear out your own throat! Fenrir!"

The Persona she summons is different from Sarah's - still the same spectral wolf, but the rattling chains that normally enshroud it are rent asunder - a wolf that is no longer bound.

"The fact that it won't pop right back up is no reason to not strive for something greater than a shitty dead world!"

Oh shit. It's unchained. But then again, Shura has never been one to back down from a challenge. "DIS!" This Persona is a bit weak for how long Shura had been in Hinoto-Ri, but she is loyal and faithful.

The Shadow's response is quick and decisive.

"Bufula!"

I haven't been keeping up with Dis usage so let's pretend she earned no skills

OW GODDAMN right in the Weakness. Neither Shura nor Dis are amused once they recover.

"Makajam!" Shura orders as Dis opens her frightful eyes to cast a silence spell at the Shadow. If she can silence the Shadow, she can kill it without worrying about the Ice.

As the Makajam spell seals the Shadow's Persona, it scowl and clenches its fist, the spikes on its left knuckles popping forward as it throws a short jab at Shura's nose.

Holy Jack Frost in an ice cream tub it actually worked. She swiftly jumped back, not fast enough to avoid the spikes grazing her nose and cheeks, leaving thin, bloody cuts behind. Dis appeared above her and, opening her arms, cast Agilao on the Shadow.

The Shadow throws up its arms to cover its face from the blast of fire, which burns away a part of its uniform. Snarling, it lunges forward, leading with the talons on its left arm thrust out in a sort of knife-hand stab.
