A Day in the Life of a Part Time Job Slave

Who: Yu Narukami, and everyone and anyone and all the things.
Where: Virgo, Aquarius, and Taurus Districts; any given week.
Summary: Yu's still working his three jobs to help save up for an apartment. And now it's almost Christmas time... you can pretty much guess how this goes.
Warnings: Crossdressing antics.

[Christmas time again... never mind it had only been a few months ago for Yu. He didn't want to think much about what happened before last Christmas, so... well...]

[MONDAY-WEDNESDAY; MAYS GROCERY STORE CLERK, ~~5:00~~ 3:00-11:00PM]
[Being the superstore of Hinoto-Ri, of course Mays is swamped on a regular basis. Yu is totally and completely not shocked when they start calling him in to work extra hours. He was thinking about going back to school, but that's obviously out this month... at least the extra money will help with his apartment funds.]

[Yu can be found, quite literally, all over the store. Seeing as it's busy, he's willing to go where ever they need him: grocery, check out, deli area... everywhere.]

[THURSDAY-FRIDAY; AQUARIUS DISTRICT LIBRARY, 5:00-9:00PM]
[He would say that Thursday and Friday are his break days, but guess where some shoppers drop their kids off while they shop? Hinoto-Ri really needs a Chuck E. Cheese or something...]

[When Yu isn't child wrangling, he'll be around helping with anyone that wants to study or needs some kind of tutoring. He would also bring Nanako with him while he works, if she wants to come.]

[SATURDAY; NYX'S NIGHTCLUB, 10:00PM-4:00AM]
[...he hates the fact that he's starting to love this job.]

[No, seriously, after he got over the overwhelming shame, he found himself having a lot of fun at work. Sure, it sucked when demons got a little too grabby, but he was strong enough to remind them that touching was against the rules.]

[Since it's going to be cold on the 8th, Yu's going to work wearing his wig. Hey, the extra hair helped to keep his ears warm.]

[He's pretty confident about that. After all, look how many of his friends just showed up? Even the people that started out as the only ones from their worlds had friends and others appear at some point; people's bonds always drew one another together.]

[...wait, he was sure they were only at rank three before. That's never happened...]

[After a moment, he gave her hand a squeeze, letting go and closing his eyes for her.]

[Welcome to what happens with most Dimension Links, Yu. Going from Rank 0/1 to max in one fell swoop. She laughs under her breath, fairly used to it for some odd reason. Even if her own laugh still seems to surprise her every now and then.

Well Yu, be amazed. She's done before you know it. It looks... even better than the look that got her this job in the first place.]

[She'll likely be hanging back after work tonight in order to gather her thoughts before heading home if he still wants to talk later.]

[He's pretty damn exhausted by the end of the night, mostly due to being inches away from a demon that wanted to be a little too touchy feelsy. Seriously, he probably should talk to Nyx about being able to set demons on fire with Pyro Jack if he needed to... maybe then they wouldn't try to grab his fake boobs.]

[So at the end of the night, he's certainly happy to see a friendly face as he's washing makeup off. Yu shared another small smile with her, slinging his work bag over his shoulder.]

Want company on the way home?

[She can't blame him, since she watched every now and then (and was sorely tempted to cast Ignite on the demon once or twice, I mean geez). Though by the end of the night, she can't say she wasn't a little tired herself. Though not nearly as exhausted as Yu seemed to be.

With the kind of walk they have to take, it was probably a better idea to go in pairs, anyway. So the logical choice?]

I don't see why not.

[Though she could likely teleport home, she wasn't going to leave a friend behind in this district at this time of the night. Pulling her coat on, now.]

[Yu took his, but didn't bother with it. He was pretty sure with the weather pattern being what it was, that it would be ridiculously warm when they left the building.]

How are you enjoying work here so far?

[...little idle chit-chat never bothered anything.]

[Well, when you wear...this kind of outfit for work (never mind that it isn't much less than what she normally wears), you tend to cover up a bit more on the way home. Especially if you haven't told the not-so-bitties, yet.]

I have to say, it's a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

Though it doesn't stop tempting me to use Ignite on a few of the more rowdy clientele.

[An exasperated noise actually escaped from Yu.]

You don't need to tell me this.

[He paused as they left the building, holding the door open for Aqua before following after her.]

[...small talk was over, apparently.]

Maybe not. Still will, though.

[She nods faintly in thanks before exiting, not phased by the different temperatures at all. Weird. Though, not as weird as the topic change.]

[Wait. They're social links here. Derp.]

Ah. Well, back home... it happened fairly often with what I did. Though we called them dimension links, not social.

Ah...

[So that was fairly normal for her. Got it.]

Why do you ask?

It wasn't so simple on my world. The relationships I formed were gradual, something I had to work as hard as I could for.

[He paused a moment.]

...then again, we're both forming social links here.

[Another one of those small smiles touched his face, as if to say, "Yes, I trust you too, Aqua."]

Believe me, it normally wasn't easy on mine, either. Most involved either saving someone or fighting alongside them.

[She noticed that smile, and she couldn't help but smile as well. What? It's contagious!]

I guess so. [She knows, believe her. She does. It's why she trusted him enough to say as much as she did.]

[Yu paused at that, staring at her in surprise. If he didn't know better, he would have thought her from some alternate universe where he was female. It was fortunate they looked nothing alike, otherwise that would have been really creepy.]

[After a moment, he let out a soft chuckle.]

...we have a lot in common.

[She tilts her head, almost perplexed by how many times he's stared at her in surprise in the last twelve hours. Seriously.]

...Oh, really?

[Now she's genuinely curious.]

That's how a lot of my bonds have started as well: helping others face themselves, saving them from themselves...

...It's funny, how some worlds and lives can be so similar yet separated by barriers until they're brought to another place.

[It almost sounds like she's speaking from experience, but she is amused.]

Mm... you sound like you've encountered this before.

[He can't say he's surprised; she did say she had come from a place that wasn't her own world before.]

[...That's right. She had only told him before. No one else that she'd met before ever knew her fate, that she continued to fight despite the odds being stacked against her. though in that case, it was a memory being triggered by something so small and insignificant.

[She'd remember for them; it was the least she could do for them helping to keep her alive.]

[...he really felt for Aqua. He really did. He wanted to comfort her, saying that everything would be all right, and maybe she'd see this person again, but he couldn't bring himself to. Even as he thought it, it sounded so hollow to him that it would have been rude to actually say it.]

[Instead he reached for her again, giving her shoulder a squeeze; it was the only thing, only way he could tell her "everything would be fine" at the moment.]

...We really are a lot alike.

[She shakes her head, placing a hand over Yu's. Seriously, hope kid. Don't waste pity on those who have accepted their burdens and learned to see the light in every pit of despair and bleak situations.]

Don't worry.

[How'd she know? Terra would make the same face when he wanted to say something but either didn't know how to word it or if they tried, it would seem rude and maybe even empty.]

Even if I don't see them again, I know that our hearts are one.

[Oh, the power of belief and faith in others. Taking old pains and showing the younger ones new lessons.]

[...Yu felt a sharp pang in his heart at that, and he was pretty sure it wasn't just his reaction to what she said. He wanted to turn his thoughts inward, to make sure Izanagi was okay in there, but he refrained; he didn't want to space out on Aqua right now.]
