A Day in the Life of a Part Time Job Slave

Who: Yu Narukami, and everyone and anyone and all the things.
Where: Virgo, Aquarius, and Taurus Districts; any given week.
Summary: Yu's still working his three jobs to help save up for an apartment. And now it's almost Christmas time... you can pretty much guess how this goes.
Warnings: Crossdressing antics.

[Christmas time again... never mind it had only been a few months ago for Yu. He didn't want to think much about what happened before last Christmas, so... well...]

[MONDAY-WEDNESDAY; MAYS GROCERY STORE CLERK, 5:00 3:00-11:00PM]
[Being the superstore of Hinoto-Ri, of course Mays is swamped on a regular basis. Yu is totally and completely not shocked when they start calling him in to work extra hours. He was thinking about going back to school, but that's obviously out this month... at least the extra money will help with his apartment funds.]

[Yu can be found, quite literally, all over the store. Seeing as it's busy, he's willing to go where ever they need him: grocery, check out, deli area... everywhere.]

[THURSDAY-FRIDAY; AQUARIUS DISTRICT LIBRARY, 5:00-9:00PM]
[He would say that Thursday and Friday are his break days, but guess where some shoppers drop their kids off while they shop? Hinoto-Ri really needs a Chuck E. Cheese or something...]

[When Yu isn't child wrangling, he'll be around helping with anyone that wants to study or needs some kind of tutoring. He would also bring Nanako with him while he works, if she wants to come.]

[SATURDAY; NYX'S NIGHTCLUB, 10:00PM-4:00AM]
[...he hates the fact that he's starting to love this job.]

[No, seriously, after he got over the overwhelming shame, he found himself having a lot of fun at work. Sure, it sucked when demons got a little too grabby, but he was strong enough to remind them that touching was against the rules.]

[Since it's going to be cold on the 8th, Yu's going to work wearing his wig. Hey, the extra hair helped to keep his ears warm.]

[While at the library... Nanako is studying intently. Because studying is fun and also despite going to school here she has the vague concern that she'll get behind at home again. It doesn't help that the school schedule doesn't match up to the one she had at home, so she came into the system at a weird place.]

[Break times... break times where good. Yu slipped off his work apron -- a clear sign that he had fifteen minutes to himself and to go away -- before looking for where Nanako ended up studying. It didn't take him long (the children's area wasn't that huge), and he sat down on the ground beside her.]

How is your studying going?

"Um... I think I get most of it." She smiles at Yu, not wanting to ask him for help because she knows he's busy and this is his break. "How are you?"

"I'm... all right."

He looked down at her, trying not to let the sad look that was threatening his face show up. Damn, it was around this time, that... A moment passed, before Yu gathered his cousin up in his arms, holding her close.

"...sorry I haven't been able to spend that much time with you."

Monday

Geez... It's like a circus in here...

[Atsuro struggles through the crowds of shoppers holding nothing more exciting than some packages of rice crackers and dried kelp - carbs for his late night gaming binges.]

Let's see... Kind of in the mood for something hot...

[Atsuro wanders around aimlessly for a while between the same few aisles, not looking for anything in particular.]

[Well, if you were looking for something hot, you were in luck. Yu was helping in the deli that day, and he was pushing a cart full of freshly cooked soup vats out to the soup bar. He was hurrying to get it out so he could hurry back to help slice, and almost ran Atsuro over in the process.]

S-sorry; are you all right?

[...oh, wait, he remembers you from when they first got here.]

[He was half-expecting something like this to happen, honestly; it was the best way to meet new people. ...Or, in this case, re-meeting someone you've managed not to run into in the last three months somehow.]

Oh! ...Y-Yeah, no harm done.

[Atsuro backs off a few steps, reaching down to snatch a package he had dropped on the floor.]

Hey - Uh. Narukami, right? How's everything been?

[He probably shouldn't be talking to a worker in the middle of a busy time, but...]

[Yu nodded in acknowledgement.]

Fine; I've been working and taking care of my cousin that arrived. You?

[Just... walk over to the soup bar with him, Atsuro. He'll even be nice and dish you out some soup if you ask.]

Thursday

[There's some children in the corner, with a familiar boy in some different clothes. He's crouched near them, playing a game while one of the older caretakers looks on.]

[As he spots Yu, he waves, and speaks to the other caretaker for a moment, before heading over.]

Hiya!

[...oh Link. He's going to have to introduce you to some of his female friends, isn't he?]

Hey. Here for a lesson?

[Probably.]

Yeah. I told her that I had to leave around now on Thursdays, anyway.

[One of the kids runs up to Link and hugs his leg. He just laughs, crouches, and gives the boy a little hug back before nudging him back to his friends.]

SATURDAY

As he heads to work, he might hear an anguished yelp coming from a nearby alleyway.

The source, as it turns out, happens to be a certain "Mighty Pirate" we're all sure he's tired of seeing by now, nursing his hand and glaring at a nearby dumpster. Guybrush, look what you've done. All that dumpster diving and you finally got yourself poked by --

...Oh. There's a cat there. A very smug looking cat.

"Jerk," Guybrush mutters.

...he knows that anguished yelp. He's heard it often enough while working at Mays.

Ignoring the fact that for all intents and purposes he looks like a girl at the moment, Yu peered curiously toward the dumpster. Sure enough, there was Guybrush, looking as confusing as ever. What was he--?

...oh.

...

...that was a cute cat.

"What are you doing?"

"Awww, Caroline asked me to catch this stupid cat, but I --"

Guybrush turns to look at Yu. And just... stares for a bit.

"You know, you can usually take that stuff off once you've solved the puzzle you used it in," he commented, eyebrow raised.

Thursday

[After getting her fill of exploring the place via traveling and merely observing, Sephiroth had decided to check out the library and see what could be found within it. Even if there was nothing of informational value within its walls, maybe she could find an entertaining book or two to read at night.]

[Once inside, the tall woman dressed in black leather can be found idly wandering among the shelves of books. Her eyes taking in both the titles on the book bindings and the other people in the building in a quiet, almost aloof manner.]

[If she looked over to the children's section, Sephiroth would get to see a grey haired individual playing a game with the kids, trying to keep them entertained. Unfortunately, one of the little girls decided they weren't going to like his game, and found it perfectly acceptable to throw her five-day-old chewing gum into Yu's hair.]

[As another caretaker took the girl aside for a time out before resuming the little game, Yu ended up walking past where Sephiroth was looking through books. He somehow managed to keep the exasperated sigh back until he was out of earshot of the kids.]

Tuesday

[Rise had gotten her own job - something she was very proud of, and happy with since it meant easy, discounted clothes shopping. However, it did mean she had to go pick up groceries during rush hour, which in December meant...]

Wow, this place is packed...

...come on down to the meat department. The hour only, spiral ham is one hundred twenty-five yen a pound.

[...look to your left, Rise. All the way to your left. Yes, there's your senpai, working the discount criers position. Even though he's still crying out in his usual monotone, he still manages to put enough emotion in it to get people interested.]

Never in her life has Rise been more enthusiastic about buying ham. In the meantime, though, she wanders over to say hi.

"Hey, Senpai! I didn't realize you worked here, too," she said, smiling as she usually did when she ran into him.

Wednesday. Because things need to happen on Wednesdays more often.

And unfortunately, not everyone who entered Mays was well-acquainted with the art of modern shopping.

Because someone very lost and in traditional clothing is looking in your direction, Yu Narukami.

"Excuse me..."

It was probably fortunate that Yu was working stock that day, because it made it easier for him to run around to different departments. He turned at the voice behind him, tilting his head curiously.

"Yes? Do you need help?"

"I haven't had to do my own cooking until recently, and..."

Why was this so hard for her to admit?

"...I was wondering if you could recommend me something easy to prepare."

Saturday and all the coworker shenanigans.

[He wasn't the only one on the way to work tonight. In fact, after the lovely shenanigans with a friend and him likely getting a job here too, she quietly disappeared into the back to remove her coat and get to work-]

I see you wore your wig here, this time.

[...Smart move, really. Hm... Maybe if it's still cold next week, she should walk in while using Firestorm.]

[Yu's attention immediately snapped to her, and he managed a smile despite looking a little worn. Trying to chase a cat around with a crazy maybe pirate would do that to you.]

Yeah, it's cold out there.

I noticed. [Kind of hard not to, really. Still, she manages a faint and friendly smile. Even though it fades into a little concern.] Are you alright? You look a little tired.
