A Day in the Life of a Part Time Job Slave

Who: Yu Narukami, and everyone and anyone and all the things.
Where: Virgo, Aquarius, and Taurus Districts; any given week.
Summary: Yu's still working his three jobs to help save up for an apartment. And now it's almost Christmas time... you can pretty much guess how this goes.

[Christmas time again... never mind it had only been a few months ago for Yu. He didn't want to think much about what happened before last Christmas, so... well...]

[MONDAY-WEDNESDAY; MAYS GROCERY STORE CLERK, 5:00 3:00-11:00PM]
[Being the superstore of Hinoto-Ri, of course Mays is swamped on a regular basis. Yu is totally and completely not shocked when they start calling him in to work extra hours. He was thinking about going back to school, but that's obviously out this month... at least the extra money will help with his apartment funds.]

[Yu can be found, quite literally, all over the store. Seeing as it's busy, he's willing to go where ever they need him: grocery, check out, deli area... everywhere.]

[THURSDAY-FRIDAY; AQUARIUS DISTRICT LIBRARY, 5:00-9:00PM]
[He would say that Thursday and Friday are his break days, but guess where some shoppers drop their kids off while they shop? Hinoto-Ri really needs a Chuck E. Cheese or something...]

[When Yu isn't child wrangling, he'll be around helping with anyone that wants to study or needs some kind of tutoring. He would also bring Nanako with him while he works, if she wants to come.]

[SATURDAY; NYX'S NIGHTCLUB, 10:00PM-4:00AM]
[...he hates the fact that he's starting to love this job.]

[No, seriously, after he got over the overwhelming shame, he found himself having a lot of fun at work. Sure, it sucked when demons got a little too grabby, but he was strong enough to remind them that touching was against the rules.]

[Since it's going to be cold on the 8th, Yu's going to work wearing his wig. Hey, the extra hair helped to keep his ears warm.]

[There was an obvious, "This much cold?" hanging on his tongue, begging to actually be asked. After a moment, however, he merely slipped his own coat off, hanging it up by hers, before going over to be seated.]

[She noticed that, and gives a reassuring look. She's alright, new friend--better than she has been in a long time. Even with a newer arrival that brought it all back in one moment...]

[...well, good to know his awesome friend instincts were still intact. He wasn't sure if he had been failing at them lately or not.]

[He offered her a small smile again, before taking his seat in the makeup chair as usual.]

[They certainly were, and apparently hers were, too... even though she still needed to work on a few stats considering how rusty they were.

So she got to work on her courage and understanding stat, making sure it was still the best she could do. After all, friend points definitely worked in his favor. It's almost funny how precise her work is when her hands are kind of cold (why was she still wearing her fingerless gloves).]

[...okay, he was really starting to get concerned now, though he managed to hold off questions until she was done with his lips at least.]

Don't you have anything warmer to wear?

Mm. I do.

[She just didn't need it, not with her fire magic. Better close your eyes.]

...but when you are in a place of perpetual night with no sun to give its warmth, you grow accustomed to the lack of it.

[...well, even if it wasn't the same, it was still pretty damn horrible. Even if he does have to keep his eyes closed right now, his concern is obvious.]

[And this part she had no problems admitting, even if it had left their worlds at risk. Because she knew that the next generation of Keyblade bearers could handle what came their way. That faith is what kept her alive, after all.

She pauses in her work, looking him in the eye. That smile? Is genuine and full of strength beyond the age she seems to be.]

Because a friend, no, family member needed me, and I wouldn't let them fall prey to a living nightmare when they weren't strong enough to handle it themselves.

[Yu cracked an eye open when he felt her pull away, opening the other to look up at her in mute surprise.]

...you're strong.

[Would he be able to do that...? Well, for family, for his friends, yeah. That went without saying. Still, to know someone that actually had to go that far...]

How long...?

[She shook her head. Strong...? Hardly. She was human, after all. Made her own mistakes and paid the price in full, and then some. After all, she had almost given up and let herself be killed when her two closest bonds manifested themselves in their Keyblades to save her.]

Only because I had the my unbreakable bonds to pull me through.

[The question makes her think, though.]

Well... the last world I was kidnapped to said I was 23, so... at least four or five years?

[Funny how she doesn't look a day over 19, huh. But all that time of being completely and utterly alone? For a moment, it shows in her face. Yet there is no regret, and it's fleeting like her gaze before she continues. After all, they are still at work.]

Maybe more, considering what the others from home have said. There really isn't a strong sense of time in that place.

[He smiled again at the mention of unbreakable bonds. Yeah... that was pretty much what held him up this far too; they had a lot in common, it seemed.]

[Yu reached over for her hand, holding it gently between his own.]

...your friends are here now, aren't they? And you have others now as well. The bonds you make will keep getting stronger.

[...maybe to the point where none of them will have to worry about the darkness or being alone ever again.]

[Well, she had been a Fool at one point. Though to others, and her role, she would likely be a Star for quite some time. Though that smile and gesture...

she looked down at their hands for a moment, nodding.]

...A few of them, yes. Though, two people very important to us aren't.

[She didn't have to worry about darkness, personally. Here, or in the realm of darkness itself. For some reason, her heart always completely blocked its influence.]

If they're anything like you, they'll be drawn to this place soon enough.

[He's pretty confident about that. After all, look how many of his friends just showed up? Even the people that started out as the only ones from their worlds had friends and others appear at some point; people's bonds always drew one another together.]

[After a moment, he gave her hand a squeeze, letting go and closing his eyes for her.]

[Welcome to what happens with most Dimension Links, Yu. Going from Rank 0/1 to max in one fell swoop. She laughs under her breath, fairly used to it for some odd reason. Even if her own laugh still seems to surprise her every now and then.

Well Yu, be amazed. She's done before you know it. It looks... even better than the look that got her this job in the first place.]

[She'll likely be hanging back after work tonight in order to gather her thoughts before heading home if he still wants to talk later.]

[He's pretty damn exhausted by the end of the night, mostly due to being inches away from a demon that wanted to be a little too touchy feelsy. Seriously, he probably should talk to Nyx about being able to set demons on fire with Pyro Jack if he needed to... maybe then they wouldn't try to grab his fake boobs.]

[So at the end of the night, he's certainly happy to see a friendly face as he's washing makeup off. Yu shared another small smile with her, slinging his work bag over his shoulder.]

[She can't blame him, since she watched every now and then (and was sorely tempted to cast Ignite on the demon once or twice, I mean geez). Though by the end of the night, she can't say she wasn't a little tired herself. Though not nearly as exhausted as Yu seemed to be.

With the kind of walk they have to take, it was probably a better idea to go in pairs, anyway. So the logical choice?]

I don't see why not.

[Though she could likely teleport home, she wasn't going to leave a friend behind in this district at this time of the night. Pulling her coat on, now.]

[Yu took his, but didn't bother with it. He was pretty sure with the weather pattern being what it was, that it would be ridiculously warm when they left the building.]

How are you enjoying work here so far?

[Well, when you wear...this kind of outfit for work (never mind that it isn't much less than what she normally wears), you tend to cover up a bit more on the way home. Especially if you haven't told the not-so-bitties, yet.]

I have to say, it's a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

[He paused as they left the building, holding the door open for Aqua before following after her.]

[She nods faintly in thanks before exiting, not phased by the different temperatures at all. Weird. Though, not as weird as the topic change.]
