Who: Kaito Watari and YOU! Open of all the people
Where: The Cancer District
Summary: Kaito is finally feeling better and he's out wandering the town, but mainly in the Cancer district. Backdated to the 20th.

It was a little warmer, and Kaito was feeling less sick, so clearly this was his chance to go outside and get some fresh air. Yes.

This was clearly the best time to window shop in the Cancer district instead of going to, let's say, somewhere more outdoorsy. Like a park. How about it, Kaito? Feel like going to a park?

...No? Just going to press your face against the glass and stare at all the cool shit?

His gaze went to the bird as well, and he chuckled a little.

"Hmm. Where are you from?"

"The Citadel. It's-- Oh, you mean-- Um. I'm from Nosgoth."

Still awkward at introductions... though, that did remind him of something!

He takes his cloth shopping bag off his right, to put it on his left wrist, and sticks the freed hand out to him in a handshake offer. "My name's Avitus."

Yeah, whoops, just about spaced that out entirely here. He might be keeping that little smile, but he's kind of biting the inside of his lip now too, wings pressing a little more tightly against him.

Nosgoth, eh? He nodded and stuck out his hand for a handshake.

"I'm Kaito. Cool to meet you. So what's...Nosgoth?"

"It's..." Paaaaaaause.

The irony, not that Kaito would know, is that this burd is actually the architect behind the majority of the buildings in the Citadel, the current largest city existing in his era. ~~That he knows of. Turel's territory doesn't count.~~

....And he's not sure how to describe it to someone that doesn't know already.

"It's... where I'm from," he tried, well aware after he said it that that was a pretty poor excuse for an explanation. He gave a sheepish look.

"I mean... it's pretty rocky. And there's a river that runs under the Citadel, from the mountains nearby... and we have some fields the humans grow things in, near the Citadel... but Heldrad says the rest of Nosgoth's pretty much dead. Is... that what you mean?"

Maybe if Avitus had a better idea of just what Kaito wanted to know about it, he could answer better?

"Kinda. What kind of people live there, what's it like, that sort of thing. Like, it doesn't have those," He said as he gestured toward the computers displayed. "I'm assuming. Right?"

"Oh! No. No, it doesn't. But when I was a lot younger, one of the other clans made a whole lot of... things. And Winnoc would tell me all about it, when he came back from visiting them." Quieter, "I really wish I'd gone with him, now. But it was different then.

"Anyway, he said they had all kinds of things, like a box, that had this cone on a hole on its front, and you point it at something, and... a while later, you can get a picture of what it was pointed at, like a painting, except... it wasn't a painting."

Photography?

His smile turned a little sad. "But it's been ages since they were around and making things like that. And the clans never traded with the humans in their Citadel... so when my clan was destroyed, we... kind of lost most of that. We've got some of those things again, at least. Like... electricity, for lights. And big machines for washing a lot of clothes at once. But it's just my clan and the humans now, and the other clans are mostly these... monster... things. And everyone's trying to get rid of them. The Turelim are still smart, but...."

He was quiet a second, thinking about it. "My sketchbooks are in my quarters, if you wanted to see...? It... might be easier to explain by showing you."

Well, this wouldn't be the first time a non-human has opened up to him, honestly.

"Sure, it sounds interesting. Oh!" Fiddling with his phone again. "Wanna see something cool?"

"Sure."

He took a slow step a little closer, tilting his head at the little device. Curious, yes. Wanting to invade Kaito's space, no.

With that, he pressed a button a couple of times and there was a "click" noise. Kaito then turned his phone around to show Avitus a...photo of himself.

"This is what you were talking about, right? With photos?"

Avitus just stared a second before nodding. "Sort of. I-- how did you do that? That's--

"The one Winnoc showed me didn't have color, and it was on-- it wasn't paper, but--"

Congrats, you've pretty much both stumped him and made his night there.

"You're talking about photography. It sounds you had a really really old camera. This isn't one, it's a phone that has a tiny camera in it."

Wh...wha...

Yeah, no kidding. So Kaito's getting a better idea of the tech level this budie came from, by this point? Because the burdie's getting an idea of just how lost he's going to feel here for a while.

"...And it makes the picture with color, too."

Silent a moment. Wings got a little floofy-feathered, so he puts those behind him more again, gives them a brief shiver to try knocking the feathers back into place, and tucks them more tightly against his back again.

"....how long did it take to come up with something like that?"

"...The pictures with color thing or the putting a camera in a phone thing?"

"Either? ....both?"

"Well...I dunno about the color, that was awhile after black and white photos, but the phone camera thing is kind of recent. I think that was like...it started being a thing ten years ago?"

"Really?"

Looking back to Kaito again. Kid, you have him fascinated with your phone now. Or the idea of there being a tiny color-picture camera in it. Or something like that, who knows. And you're doing nothing to dispel this association he's making, between the humans here, and the old Empire-era Rahabim clan. He just about freaking idolized those guys and all their brainpower for coming up with the coolest stuff. Like cameras.

"And if those things are common in your world too...." He glanced at the store's display models again, then looked back to Kaito, a bit confused. He tilted his head a little. "Nosgoth would probably be pretty boring to you."

"I wouldn't say that. If it's different, then I doubt it'd be boring, right?"

"Mm..." He'll take half a pause to consider that. "Maybe I've just lived there too long. I think... in a lot of ways, I'm starting to like this place a little better. Except, people keep saying there's demons that get into the city."

Hasn't seen any yet. Eyes have been too busy looking into the shops; one could've walked right by him, for most of the day, and he wouldn't have realized.

"Oh, haha, yeah, they're not a huge deal though, if you know how to handle them."

He said as he gripped his phone a little too tightly.

"Oh. ....how do you handle them?"

He didn't quite get the memo, whoops.

"With something a friend of mine made. Wanna see?"

"Sure." He's not sure what to expect, but why not. Could be great to know, right? Right! ~~And he is such a chicken.~~

"Okay!" And again, he opened his phone. "This, uh, isn't normally in phones, but watch this." And with the press of a few buttons, the air next to him wavered, and a fairy woman in a green dress appeared.

"This is Titania! She's a type of demon. Not all demons are bad, see. It's just a general term for spirits and stuff. Titania's a Fairy."

"I'm the Fairy Queen, dear."

Psssh, whatever.

Staring at her a second... closing his mouth now. But his eyes are a little wide, looking her over with obvious curiosity.

"So you-- that thing-- calls your friends, and they come?" Looking to Titania. "You can teleport?"

So many questions to ask. So many he can't hardly brain them all right now.

"And... if demons aren't--"

Paaaaaaause. This is still sinking in... but at least he does seem to be getting it, about demons and stuff here?

"....so it is much like in Nosgoth, after all."

"Um, well no, I can't teleport." Any...more, at least. Titania, for her part, merely chuckled.

"Friends is a stretch. We're bound by contracts with humans, you see."

"Right. That's what the app does. It takes all of the guesswork out of forming contracts."
