Double action [Open]

Who: Urataros and open
Where: Virgo District
Summary: Urataros does some shopping.
Warnings: None.

Virgo District -- Urataros skirted his way around a merchant's stall, politely declining a woman offering samples of her strawberry-banana crepes. "No, thank you, ma'am. But if you're offering dessert..." He pushed up the dark frames of his glasses, smiling. "I'd be happy to sample you."

And thus it went. He swept onward, saving numbers in his (generously provided) new cell phone as he walked. Now that he was in a different world altogether, he'd have to rebuild his directory from scratch. And of course they'd be doubly useful for the purposes of his new job, which --

Oh, of course. He was here to do some shopping for his new job, wasn't he? A few new outfits, some decor for the club, maybe a few other odds and ends. And if he didn't get to it sooner or later, the shops were all going to close up by the time midnight rolled around.

A shame. A city's night life was its heart.

Urataros turned his face slightly in the direction of her voice, though obviously he couldn't fully face her without loosening himself from her arms. "I have to be. Didn't I tell you about my new profession? These ladies could very well be my new customer base. You know? Ah-ri-chan." This last was said in a sort of teasing singsong.

"And what are you doing out here? Not hiding from the Shadows, I'll bet."

"New profession?" she asked curiously, smiling at his playfulness. That was something she could appreciate!

"Exploring! This place is so much different than my world, I want to know every nook and cranny I can get into."

Urataros touched a hand to his chin. "I talked a wonderfully generous lady into lending me her host club for a while. So I'm effectively the manager for the duration of my stay here. The only thing is that it still needs some additions to the decor before we can reopen. Which is why I'm here.

"...well, that and I need a few more suits to complete the ensemble. Care to come along?"

"What's a host club?" Ahri questioned again, her curiosity getting the better of her as she neared even closer, wanting to know more.

"I wouldn't mind, the last stroll we took was pleasant enough~" She mused.

Urataros smiled. "It's an establishment where any lady can be a queen, if only for a short while. Generally, clients pay for conversation, food, and drink -- provided by the hosts, naturally. We lend them a sympathetic ear, even when the rest of life is getting them down."

Then he gave Ahri an appraising look. "Actually, you might make a decent hostess. It pays fairly well, too."

The explanation certainly piqued her curiosity even more as her ears perked up and her smile and excitement seemed to grow.

"Sounds like a really fun place to work at!" she exclaimed before he mentioned the latter part. "Me? I'd love to!"

"Wonderful," he said, smile widening just a little. "We'll just make it hosts and one hostess. But I think the first thing we should do is finish shopping for some new clothes. The owner gave me a company credit card to use. Shall we?"

"Sounds like a good time! Count me in." she replied with a smile.

"I can't wait to see more of this place and shopping seems to be so many talk about often I've always wanted to try it!"

Urataros hooked Ahri's elbow with his own. "Then let's find our first boutique. You know, I think you'd look wonderful in red. Blue's more my color, though."

As they strolled along the city streets, they'd run into tons of busy storefronts and people milling about, wearing all kinds of clothes. "Although come to think of it, you can tell a lot about current fashions just by watching the people walking by."

"Well I do like red a lot! It's a very attractive color and something about it just calls to me~" She mused with a smile as she walked with him.

Ahri so enjoyed people watching and doing so while being accompanied by pleasant company made it all the better. She nodded at his statement, "You sure can~ You can tell a lot about the people themselves by what they wear too."

"Maybe it's your lucky color." Not that Urataros put too much faith in fortunetelling, but every bit helped, didn't it?

He stopped outside a colorful-looking storefront with formal wear displayed in the windows. "You know, I think this might have what we need."

"Maybe!"

Ahri didn't wait once he chose a store. She began to drag him along and looking excited. "Good! Then let's go in so we can start this whole thing! I wana see everything I can."

Urataros allowed her to pull him along with a mix between resigned amusement and his own curiosity about what they'd be able to find. "Shall we start with the evening gowns, then?"

He touched the fabric of a white dress with a long train at the end. "This looks lovely. Although I think it's intended as a wedding dress."

Ahri looked excitedly at the dress, running a hand through the fabric and smiling. "It feels really nice~ I think I've heard of weddings before! So this is what you would normally wear to one or?" she looked at him curiously.

"I guess you could say that," said Urataros, examining the way that the sequins reflected the light. "Or rather, you'd wear something like this if you were the one getting married. In a western-style wedding, anyway. They're big on white dresses for the ladies, and tuxedos for the adults."

"Tuxedos?" she asked curiously while looking around the dress in hopes that maybe, if they were supposed to be paired, then this tuxedo should be nearby.

"You also said western-style wedding, so is that like different city-states, or different continents altogether? Which one do you come from?"

“Like those,” Urataros said, motioning to the mens’ section of the store, where various styles of formalwear were laid out. “Though they tend to be less varied than wedding dresses.”

He pushed his glasses up along the bridge of his nose. “Let’s see, how to explain this… different continents are divided up into multiple countries. I’m from Japan, which is considered in the ‘east’. When people say western-style… hmm. I guess you'd think America? But there are other countries in the west, like England, France, and Italy; they’re also fond of their tuxedos.”

Ahri sauntered off, almost gliding towards the tuxedos with a curious glee as she spoke in a thoughtful tone. "Japan, America, England, France and Italy...~ They sounds unfamiliar to me but oh so intriguing~" she mused as she looked over the tuxedos.

"Hm, don't they seem a bit restricting to you?" she asked, knowing that she herself would run around in the buff if she hadn't already been told it wasn't 'right'.

"Maybe a little," Urataros said, following her over. He ran a hand along the smooth fabric of a jacket as he did so. "But they're designed to flatter the male form. Besides, they're worn mainly for special occasions, so it's not as though you're always encumbered."

He inspected a blue silk tie with some interest. "You know, perhaps this town has a library of some sort. You could learn all kinds of things about Earth from there."

Ahri moved back and crossed her arms as she studied it.

"I suppose... Back where I'm from the more coveted men use armor or flowing arcanist robes. Something like this would be more for the politicians or nobles I suppose. I never had much interest in those however." she stated offhandedly.

At the mention of the library, she smiled and shook her head. "Maybe if I could take the books with me. I was never much into staying in one place for long so I wouldn't want to stay in the library for long either."

"Hmm. Sounds kind of medieval," said Urataros. "There aren't too many people now who walk around wearing armor. They still have ceremonial robes, though -- like for monks."

"Anyway, that is kind of the point of a library. You can take books out on loan. But you have to bring them back eventually, of course. Unless you want to pay a fine."

Not that he did much library-surfing.

"Interesting~ I do like your kind of attire though, and the stuff I've seen around this world. It's really intriguing and pleasant to look at!" she mused with a smile.

"Ah, that makes sense I suppose. I should take a look at this library later then."

"Excuse me, is there something I can help you with?"

Urataros turned to the smartly-dressed store clerk. "Actually, I think I'd like to try on this suit. Would you mind unlocking one of the dressing rooms for me?"

As it turned out, the clerk was more than happy to oblige. "See if you can find something you'd like to try on," called Urataros from within the dressing room.

He didn't have to tell her twice once she figured she could try out as many as she wanted! Once she went around the area with the dresses, she came back with a few choices that would allow her tails freedom and it felt like something she'd be comfortable wearing.

"Okay~ I'd like to try these on please." she mused happily.

Urataros stepped out of the room, now fully-dressed in a snappy number with a blue shirt. "Found some you like?"

He glanced at the belly dancer-like dress, and laughed a little, amused. "I wonder if you'll get costume requests. Now, that's an idea -- maybe we could have days where everyone dresses according to a theme. I'm sure the customers will appreciate it."
