He grins a bit at the boy.

"Tired, are you?"

"Of being stuck here, yes." His voice is quiet but a little sharp with annoyance, his accent strongly reminiscent of old London but with a strange inflection. "Aren't you?"
meaningdies: (you who would seek power)

His own accent is fairly neutral, but with a hint of Japanese. "I am... though I've no better things to do at home right now, the situation being what it is."

"Hm." Yurick's gaze slides off slightly to somewhere at Naoya's flank, losing the tiniest bit of focus. "They took me and my friend as well in the middle of a rising conflict. I'd rather like to return home as soon as possible, before any of our comrades are hurt."

"From what I understand, your timeline will be fine. I don't know exact details, but I imagine that when you return things will end up all right."

Not that it helps him, but whatever. Seems like the sort of thing a do-gooder like Philemon would do.
mementodagger: (you're not real and you can't save me)

"I certainly hope so. It would be nice if that happened before my friend does something utterly foolish, as he's wont to do."

Zael's white-knight tendencies led him to trouble more times than Yurick cared to count. It gave the mage a rather constant headache.

"Have you been here a while, then?"
meaningdies: (patience grows thin)

"I have, yes. Since... September of last year, I believe."
mementodagger: (and let me have what's left)

Yurick sits up, looking a lot less tired now.

"You've been here that long? Bloody hell...." He rests his head in one hand for a moment, processing that bit of information. "We arrived not quite three months ago. I thought that was a long time, but it seems I was wrong. Not a comforting thought."

Yurick tends to gripe in order to hide fear, and right now he's deeply afraid. Between what he learned from Atsuro and now Naoya, the trap of Hinoto-Ri feels more and more constricting.

"It's not so bad here. Aside from the odd strange event, it's more or less as peaceful as you can ask a city with demons roaming around to be."
mementodagger: (the living's in the way we die)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2013-08-29 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"And we're expected to fight some of these demons, from what I've been told." Yurick got to his feet, slinging his satchel over his shoulder. "I think it would've been a bit more logical for whoever's in charge here to kidnap all of my comrades instead of just two of us."

The sarcasm is a bit thick, and it's impossible to miss the resentment in his tone. Naoya can probably relate.

"And it would have been more helpful for him to bring others instead of me. I created the Demon Summoning Program - what does he want me to do, summon more?"

... Not entirely what he meant to say but whatever.
mementodagger: (I've been a prisoner all my life)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2013-08-30 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
That earned Naoya a shocked look.

"Tell me you're not responsible for all these demons...." Maybe someone else had misused this "program" thing the other man had created. The alternative was too terrible to think about.

"No, not here. At home, yes."

He shrugged a bit. "Believe me when I say that it was a good thing that I let people pact with demons at home. The alternative would be them having to fight powerful demons on their own."
mementodagger: (what more can convince you I'm right)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2013-09-03 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"What possible reason could you have... if they're anything like the monsters here, surely people died because of what you did!"

There couldn't possibly be a logical reason for such a thing. Why would this man act so casual about bringing demons into the mortal world?
meaningdies: (get. out.)

[personal profile] meaningdies 2013-09-03 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course they did - but many more were saved because of it. There were going to be demons breaking through anyway - and sending an unarmed human into a fight against a demon is suicidal. The program also contained a function to boost the resistance of people - normally a single attack from a demon would fell someone."

He crossed his arms and growled slightly. "Furthermore, humanity needed to show God that they were willing to break away from Him."
mementodagger: (nobody wants to know you now)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2013-09-08 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Weighty truths, and Yurick fell silent as he tried to balance them in his mind. His expression clearly showed he was torn now. To both help and harm, that's what Naoya did, and the idea of sacrificing a few to save the many wasn't a foreign concept to the mage.

"It can't have been an easy choice to make, though." His voice is softer, almost apologetic rather than accusatory.

"It was, if only because it was the only option that made sense." It would happen eventually, he'd just... pushed it along.

"And I've seen too many wars, from both the combatant and civilian sides, to hesitate in those kinds of decisions."
