Summary: The most terrible romantic day of the year has arrived!

You awaken in a dark room.

...To the sound of giggling.

"Ohmygosh, they're finally awake!" The shrill voice elicits an uncontrollable wince of pain; as the lights flicker on, the wince is liable to evolve into a full-on expression of abject horror. Everything is pink. The bed is pink. The walls are pink. The flower petals are pink. The confetti and streamers are pink. The enormous scented candles strewn about everywhere are pink.

............The tight briefs and/or lingerie that may or may not be on your body in place of your own underwear are pink (You do get to keep your clothing, so this part is optional if you don't want to play it - your characters can wake up in their normal bedclothes or day clothes if you like. However, if your characters do wake up in sexy underwear or their PJs, their normal clothes will be in a nearby dresser.)

Before you have too much time to consider exactly what's going on, the voice sounds again.

"We are going to have so much fun! We just knew the two of you would be perfect together. No connection to the outside world whatsoever! No need to thank us! Now, we'll just be here in the corner and you two can just... oh, you know!"

The fairy blushes and sighs longingly.

"OK! Good luck!"

Right about then, you realize someone else is in bed next to you.

[The event has begun! Please refer to this post to see how things will go. If you prefer not to have fairies directly involved, they will very generously allow you a little time ~alone~ if you ask, though they will return. Otherwise, they will be scribbling notes, drawing and narrating your "steamy romance" (romance may not be as steamy as implied). Characters can attack the fairies all they like, but it will have no effect, as they're projecting themselves in with magic while they watch from the safety of their little pixie laptops.

Remember that you control the fairies and what they say. We've created an npc account pixielove and you can find the password here, so have fun! You're free to use the account or not at your discretion.

Additionally, for the 14th to the 15th at night, anyone stuck together will not be able to contact the outside world. Don't worry, the fairies will let everyone know you're safe!]

[Aha. That is a thing Shelly can do - he would never say he's as good at picking locks as he is at, say, cutting off someone's air supply, but it is a skill that comes in handy and, as such, he has learned it, of course.

But he's curious about something.]

Is that one of your skills, as a... detective?

[And by that, he evidently means "whatever your job actually is".]

[Good sir, he is offended by that implication! Lowly detectives aren't burglars and he himself is nothing but a detective. Get it right, man.]

Of course not! Detectives don't pick locks, we only break doors down when the situation calls for it!

[If they were alone, he might try to press the issue. But they made a deal, and while Shelly gets the impression that the bond of trust between the two of them is kind of a work-in-progress, that only means it's wise not to strain it, right?]

... Naturally.

I happen to have some experience with lock picking, but unfortunately... Right now, I have no tools with me.

Maybe we can use a credit card. [Because he knows for a fact that isn't an urban myth. He reaches for his holster, rummaging through it to find his wallet. ...Hm, all he has with him is his Hinoto-Ri citizen ID card. If that one snaps in half, he's not sure he'll ever get a replacement.]

... Are you willing to risk a credit card on a door that is likely to be magically sealed?

No, I guess not. [He breathes an incredibly heavy sigh, then hangs his head with a pout.]

Don't you have some kind of card? Anything could work as long as it's laminated.

[Shelly sees what Bobby is getting at, but...] My cards are made of paper, as regular playing cards are.

[Paper? Wow, what a cheapskate. He slips his wallet back into his gun holster, then slings the whole thing around his shoulders so he can strap it on the way it's supposed to be.]

Then... I guess we're stuck.

[YO HE NEEDS A LOT OF THOSE CARDS, OKAY, IT'S JUST MORE COST-EFFECTIVE THIS WAY

Shelly gives him a meaningful glance, and then he speaks slowly, deliberately, in a way that, he hopes, will make it perfectly clear he isn't talking to the Detective, but to whoever this man really is.]

Are you absolutely sure?

[They sure have gone a long while without fairy narration, haven't they? But don't worry, the meaningful glance hasn't escaped their notice.]

Shelly once again peers deeply into Bobby's eyes, hoping to catch a glimpse of the detective's true self in those pools of chocolate brown. Elusive like a phantom, Bobby's feelings of passion and raw lust are forced so deep down that it'll take more than meaningful stares to bring them to light. Perhaps a passionate kiss? [HINT HINT.]

[Shelly's implication is received loud and clear, but ultimately ignored. His watch is equipped with a lot of gadgets, but they're mostly the technical type. If the door was locked by a computerized system, then perhaps he could've hacked it, but he owns nothing as simple as lock picking tools.

Both the meaningful glance and the fairy narration are countered with Bobby puffing up his cheeks in a thoughtful, almost childish manner, then releasing the breath in one quick huff.]

I've got no other ideas.

[... So, what now.] Do you think anyone would notice your absence, Mr. Detective? A co-worker, perhaps?

[Truth be told, he barely knows his new co-workers, but...] They'll notice I can't report in for work today, that's for sure. I just don't know if they'll act on it.

[dekillerqueen]

... Would they not be the slightest bit compelled to know why you're not there? [It's not like Shelly has a terribly flattering view of most detectives he knows of, but this is not helping.]

Well... It wouldn't be the first time I moved straight on to patrolling without stopping by the office. If I wanted a desk job, I would've gone to secretary school.

[...If there were such a thing as secretary school.]

... Are you supposed to do that?

Nobody's complained yet. [He's pretty sure they're just happy to have foreigners taking the job of detective, period.]

In that case, I have no more ideas. Again.

[Oh Shelly. When will you learn not to leave openings like that?]

"Let's pass the time with a steamy make out session!" Bobby suggested, clearly excited at the concept. He needed to get laid badly. Why, his very body was crying out to release some sexual tension.

...... Bobby has no words. No words. All he can do is stare at the fairies with his mouth open because, wow, that was way more direct than all the other babblings up until now.]

[Wh. What. Where did they even get that from? The Detective isn't actually... OK NO SHELLY WILL NOT LOOK AT BOBBY'S CROTCH, THAT WOULD BE WEIRD. He'll just trust that the fairies made all of that up.]

Why is this happening...?

[Not to worry, there's nothing going on with Bobby's crotch aside from lingering banana hammock discomfort. The fairies are full of bullshit.

Still, it's at that moment that a thought crosses his mind. A thought he detests, because he'd much rather do the blackmailing than be blackmailed, but... If they were to give fairies what they want, just a little piece of it, perhaps those little demons would be satisfied and let them leave.

Ugh, why is he even considering that? He's not that desperate just yet.]

We'll just have to wait it out. They can't keep us in here forever.

Although... my question was not meant to be purely rhetorical. Is their motive for keeping us here truly to see us engage in romantic acts?

[... Is Shelly considering the same thing he was considering just now? Errgh. He'll just cross his arms over his chest, looking offended.]

I don't really care what their motive is. It's not gonna happen.
