The Search for the Newcomers, December 2012 Edition.

Who: Open to Everyone, but only Newly Accepted Characters can start threads.
Where: All around the city! They appear where you want them to appear.
Summary: Newcomers arrive and by now the Government is more ready and sends everyone out to go people hunting.
Warnings: ARRIVALS. Also assume the first thread is the ones who tell you about the city, and the other tags for the character can be talking with others in the city and learning more about it.

[FOR THOSE IN THE CITY:]
They were getting much better at this, it was for certain.

Last month's initial testing of the HORUS system had worked really well. The device which allowed everyone to spot abnormalities; and now even more refined, they could hone in on newcomers at a much faster pace. The leftover energy from the travel (commonly called Magatama Residue) gave them a few minutes to find them before it would flicker out.

Combined with the fact they could appear in most parts of the city, it made finding the newcomers was both easy yet frustratingly difficult.

As the blips appear on your own radar function, it was also nice enough to calculate for you the best transport and destination routes to take to get there. Speed was of the essence, after all.

[FOR THOSE WHO JUST ARRIVED:]
You're not in your homeworld anymore. That much is evident. So how do you feel? Happy? Sad? Troubled? A little of all three? No matter what, the memories of a butterfly man named Philemon are fading like a dream; you'll remember the details, but perhaps not everything he has said.

There is one word that stays with you, however.

Persona.

So...here to save the city, huh? First you'll need to find out more information. And who knows, maybe a familiar face or two...

[OOC: As stated above, only new characters can start a thread, but feel free to jump in any of them. characters arrive with their clothing and whatever items they had on them the moment they were taken; the remaining items will be later found in their apartments.]

And Pharos, who had been intrigued by the blips on both the radar function that tracked the flood of newcomers and on his senses and gone to see some of them, returned the greeting with his own small smile, "Hi."

He stared up at the black-haired woman, interested in spite of himself. There were many worlds and many Deaths, since one person getting the job done across all the worlds was too ineffective, but the only ones he had ever encountered had been from his own dimension. And yet, here stood another Death, pale-skinned and tall.

Something about the boy almost reminds her of Slugger. Which captured her attention even more than her inherent interest in, well, everyone. "I'm afraid I'm still getting my bearings. Do you have a moment?"

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-13 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course," he nodded and folded his arms neatly behind his back, fingers laced together. She was a newcomer after all and he would render what aide he could. It was only polite. "Is there anything you would like to know?"
acapriciousthing: (Tell me about it...)

"Ruri gave me some of the basics of the city. But I'm curious about the forces that actually managed to pull me here. How much is known about them?" She'd already had to face that there were forces powerful enough to do it. And now it looked like itwas more common than she expected.

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-14 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Their names are Philemon," Pharos informed her cheerily, delighted to provide information. "And Nyarlathotep. The two facets of humanity personified—the potential for good that exists within all humans' hearts, and the hatred and malice that festers inside them as well."

He leaned backward, rocking on his heels before straightening up again. "They've made a bet between them and both of them are quite determined to win this one." He personally thinks this is a fascinating experiment, and does wonder about the conclusion himself. It's... interesting, really.
acapriciousthing: (Actually this IS her angry face)

[personal profile] acapriciousthing 2012-12-14 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Anthropomorphic personifications?" That was almost a relief to hear. At least that put the powers that drew her here on par with herself.

But she frowned. "Playing games with mortal lives."

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-14 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Correct!" he nodded, pleased that she understood. One sandal tapped idly on the ground. He stilled it.

And Pharos shrugged his small shoulders in response to her displeased frown. "I suppose that is so." He had no way of knowing how either of those two viewed their gambles with humanity, though the child Death was certain Nyarlathotep considered it a game. Philemon... Hm.

Death gave her head a disapproving shake. "Not behaviour I care for." And here she didn't even have big sister authority to weigh in with.

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-15 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm, I see," Pharos remained stock still as he spoke, a thin small statue with a curious gleam in his bright blue eyes. The little boy had no real opinion on whether or not they had the right to play their games with mortal lives, so he can't truly offer much on that front, sorry lady Death.

This conversation is going a bit differently than what usually happens when she gets ahead of herself. Interesting. "Not quite the reaction I expected."

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-15 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Then tell me, what reaction were you expecting from myself?" Pharos questioned, smiling a little. The emotions behind the smile themselves were shallow and not very well expressed nor developed, but they were slightly less superficial than when he had first arrived.

"Usually people get a bit lost when I start right into appropriate conduct for anthropomorphic personifications without a bit more background." And usually she's better about not doing that.

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-16 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
He cocked his head to the side, absorbing that before nodding understandingly. "Oh, you don't need elaborate on that sort of background. I already know about that kind of stuff!"

Considering. He's one himself and all. 'Stuff'; evidence that Pharos is intelligent beyond what his physical appearance implies, but defaults to being and talking like a kid at times.

"You have dealings with anthropomorphics?" It couldn't be that unusual. The concept had popped up on two worlds, no reason to suspect it wouldn't have elsehwere.

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-18 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
"That... wasn't quite the term that was used, but yes," Pharos chuckled a bit to himself and nodded at her. Death was a popular concept to personify it seemed. "I'm what you could say awaits every living thing at the end of their road."

Nice to meet you, lady and fellow Death. :D Hi~

She nods. THat's pretty clear, to her at least. "Another Death, then." Once it would have at least mildly surprised her. Now, knowing there were other universes, well, of course those places need their own Death.

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-19 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Correct! And you're another Death yourself, too." That's pretty clear to him as well. Meeting a form of Death other than himself was a new experience. He doesn't fidget or blink very much, standing there and looking back at her.

"I am." Her own knowledge of everyone hadn't seemed to extend beyond the inhabitants of her home universe, but there was no telling if that was a constant. "There's another here as well."

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-20 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
A small, disjointed giggle escapes him. "That makes... five of us, now then!" Him, Ryoji, and Izanami, her and this other Death she had just mentioned. Six, if you counted Hades and his kindred spirit.

"Five? We should have a get together of some sort." It had been so nice to actually be able to talk to Death about... death things.

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-21 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes," he said then half-smiled. "I would look forward to that." Yes, he'd be delighted to talk about all the death-related things with other Deaths for a pleasant change of pace.

"It's nice to be able to talk on the same level. I don't really know the city well enough to suggest anything though." That was the trouble with having just arrived today. It was amazing she'd met up with Death again as quickly as she did.

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-22 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"It would be," he agreed. "Then once you do, perhaps an arrangement can be reached?" For his part Pharos was content to wait; patience was an old habit by now.

If she can manage Hogswatch dinner for the whole clan, she can manage this. "That sounds good. Who are the others, anyway?"

[personal profile] the_usual_stuff 2012-12-23 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
His soft-spoken voice replied; "Another part of me, Ryoji, and the former creation goddess Izanami are also present in Hinoto-Ri." He's assuming he doesn't need to mention himself, her or the other Death she seemed to know. Eh, if Hades wanted in, he'd say so later.
