Summary: Anant and his Persona Dionysus throw a wine party! Mingle, have fun, and watch out for the drinks, some of them are spiked...

It began entirely by accident, really.

Anant had learned that one celebrated the turning of the New Year - a novel experience, really! A world that didn't stand still, that had the cycle of night and day, and the turning of the seasons; the thought of beginning time anew was something beautiful and magnificent to the deluded god. No wonder humans would celebrate such an event!

Dionysus had suggested that perhaps wine would be the best thing to toast the New Year with - and, of course, it would be best to celebrate it where the moon was high in the sky and the stars in view. Atmosphere was just as important! Their quest took them to the square in the Scorpio Ward, nicely fixed up from a past event (something about scorpions, they didn't pry). Anant, of course, brought their own table.

Dionysus supplied the wine, Anant pushed it upon those who were passing by at the time, and soon a crowd began to gather. It started small, but Anant's bubbly personality, delicious wine, and the lighthearted atmosphere drew more and more Hinoto-Ri natives to the scene, and eventually, some of the new arrivals. By the time the clock struck midnight, on the New Years, a large impromptu party had taken over the square!

The free alcohol was possibly the cause of it, but so long as everyone was happy and having fun, why should Anant object to such a thing! To observe such a large congregation of people together - it was magical! Fantastical!

Devious.

It was just past half past twelve in the morning when the 'effect's began appearing. But what did one expect, accepting alcohol from the God of Lunacy? With the moon so high on the sky, washing down on the people below, on such a jovial occasion, how couldn't Dionysus splash a bit of mischief in there?

So have fun, my fellow inhabitants. This night will surely be memorable...

Nikolai actually showed up at the party, surprising even himself. But he figured it was time he got out and met some people in this town already. Good thing there was wine. Wine that was doing fun things to one and all. Nik was feeling a lot more chatty than he normally was, and will be approaching everyone at the party instead of being his usual wallflower self. If you've spoken with him before, Nik will say hi. Otherwise, he'll introduce himself.

Erika is so glad she came to this party. Half the guests are characters from awesome shows and games and things have been going unusually well for her besides. Drinking the luck wine probably helped. She's already found a ten dollar bill on the floor and gotten the last of one of the more popular hors d'oeuvres. So she is in a very good mood by this point. Also, after meeting so many people whose canon she could identify, it's actually sort of novel to meet someone who is a total mystery.

He'll offer his hand for a shake. He's not sure why, but he's feeling particularly chatty with the girls tonight. As much as he usually wants to, talking to women at parties is usually something he avoids. Maybe it's because he's no longer at home? Sure. That works.

"Nikolai. Just Nik if you prefer. I just arrived here a few weeks ago, so I haven't met a lot of people yet."

"Nik, then."

She shakes his hand and grins.

"Yeah, I've only been here about a month. I have to say, its a lot quieter than I expected."

"Really? What were you expecting? Considering all the commotion with the Jack demons, and all that..."

I was honestly expecting more dangerous demons to come out during the dark hour. And maybe some government organizations exploiting persona users somehow.

He smirked a bit at that. "You mean this place isn't exciting enough for you as it is? Sounds like you want a bit of Hollywood movie action on top of the rest."

She smiles right back, raising her drink slightly. "I wouldn't mind it. The place I came from was full of crazy things, so I thought this might be the same."

She takes a sip of the drink thoughtfully. "Although, back home it was mostly things that were a lot more mysterious. Like headless riders." She said as if she were talking about the weather.

"Headless riders? Do you mean like... the headless horseman?" Nik's eyebrows raise a bit, but he's not totally surprised. Considering all the things he's seen and dealt with back home, a headless horseman would fit right in.

"Pretty much exactly like that. Except replace the horse with a motorcycle." She stops to laugh.

"I guess that sounds pretty crazy, but I've actually seen it up close."

"That's a new one on me. I wonder if this city has anything like that..."

"Wouldn't surprise me. Then again, there isn't much that would surprise me. Not at this point."

"Same here. Though, this city is working on it. I never had to deal with demons before I got here."

"Mm?" Avitus had an odd perch there, sitting on the back of the bench instead of sitting properly on the seat of it. The gothy-looking angel drow-raven hybrid teenage girl teenage guy? cosplayer blue person had a thick sketchbook on their lap, drawing in it. They peeked up, quietly pulling their wings up around their shoulders just a little more, thus proving that those wings were real, and gave him a shy little smile.

"Oh. I... don't think we have yet, no. I'm Avitus."

Nik had to introduce himself to... whomever this was. He'd never seen anyone like this before, and he thought he'd seen a lot. Then again, he thought he'd seen a lot before he arrived in Hinoto-ri.

He offered his hand for a shake, and his own small smile. "Nikolai. I'm still meeting people here, I'm still somewhat new."

Avitus put a hand out in return -- two somewhat large fingers and a thumb, paler in the inside of the hand, and with large black nails, neatly taken care of, shiny... actually, judging by the curve and size of them, they probably should've been more talon-like than they were. Maybe this was a member of some sort of predatory demon species? Well, they weren't behaving like it; they took his hand gently to shake it.

"Me too. I ended up here about... not quite fifteen days ago, I think?" Mun fudges it a bit, and Avitus hasn't been keeping track.

"Sounds like we arrived around the same time. I admit I've been something of a loner since I got here. Keeping to myself, until I get all of this sorted out. It's a lot to take in."

hah, s'all right! I'm having to finish my own icons as I go. And PSD doesn't always love me. :(

"Yes, it... really is." He glanced back down to his sketchbook, sighing. The smile hadn't left, but it was a little sadder. "...I didn't think anything could, but this place is starting to make me kind of homesick. I mean-- for how things used to be, at home.

"And the technology...!" He shook his head. "It's... kind of amazing. I'm not sure if I'll be getting used to it any time soon."

"I have to admit, it's even more advanced than where I'm from. I'm not sure I'm happy about how the computers are, ah, installed, as it were...."

"Oh? You have one? I only saw them in the windows of some of the stores. They're so pretty!" Guess who went window-shopping and stared, cooing, at the screen-savers of some display models?

"Why, what about how they're installed?" Clueless burdie here.

"Ah, I suppose I more mean the ones we come into the city with." He mimes the glasses that pop around. "To me, it's a little unsettling. The ones in the stores do look amazing, and maybe wouldn't be so intrusive..."

"Oh, those ones?" He shifted, to pull what looked for all the world and was a coinpurse-type thing out of his sash, and opened it to peek inside. It looked like he was using it instead of a pocket, for his few cards, plus some other small odds and ends. "...oh good, they stayed."

He frowned at it, closing the little purse back up and hiding it in his sash again. "They keep showing up behind my ears again whenever I take them off." Because it's funny, and his mun enjoys driving him a little nuts. And he's suspicious of them.

"Yes, I tried the same thing, and that happened to me as well. I don't much like being wired in all the time, but it seems we have no choice."

"Wired in?" Avitus paused. Surely that didn't mean what it sounded like? Because he was pretty sure the only wires he'd handled recently were on those lamps he'd made.

Maybe it was a dialect thing? Language tended to change over the centuries, after all. Well, he could always ask! "...What do you mean?"
