It began entirely by accident, really.

Anant had learned that one celebrated the turning of the New Year - a novel experience, really! A world that didn't stand still, that had the cycle of night and day, and the turning of the seasons; the thought of beginning time anew was something beautiful and magnificent to the deluded god. No wonder humans would celebrate such an event!

Dionysus had suggested that perhaps wine would be the best thing to toast the New Year with - and, of course, it would be best to celebrate it where the moon was high in the sky and the stars in view. Atmosphere was just as important! Their quest took them to the square in the Scorpio Ward, nicely fixed up from a past event (something about scorpions, they didn't pry). Anant, of course, brought their own table.

Dionysus supplied the wine, Anant pushed it upon those who were passing by at the time, and soon a crowd began to gather. It started small, but Anant's bubbly personality, delicious wine, and the lighthearted atmosphere drew more and more Hinoto-Ri natives to the scene, and eventually, some of the new arrivals. By the time the clock struck midnight, on the New Years, a large impromptu party had taken over the square!

The free alcohol was possibly the cause of it, but so long as everyone was happy and having fun, why should Anant object to such a thing! To observe such a large congregation of people together - it was magical! Fantastical!

Devious.

It was just past half past twelve in the morning when the 'effect's began appearing. But what did one expect, accepting alcohol from the God of Lunacy? With the moon so high on the sky, washing down on the people below, on such a jovial occasion, how couldn't Dionysus splash a bit of mischief in there?

So have fun, my fellow inhabitants. This night will surely be memorable...

Not how he remembered it!

"Yeah! I mean, let's be frank, when I first met you, you came off like a total dick, but..." He idly reached for his second glass, and took a couple of sips, much in contrast to Yamato's previous guzzling.

"Haha, I dunno, the whole not knowing common life thing is really cute. Like in a movie or something!"

"A movie?" Yamato parroted, feeling a bit stupid at doing so. His eyebrows furrowed together in bewilderment, his gaze dropping down to where Kaito's lips were pressed against the rim of his wine glass, before forcing himself to look back into blue eyes.

Well, he wasn't sure what was happening, especially considering that he had thought Kaito hadn't been interested in him, but Yamato felt - strange. A bit hot, but not in an unpleasant way, and despite himself, he felt his lips twitch up into a bemused smile.

"What kind of film...?"

"You know, like, there's this rich heiress or something, and it's her first time away from high society and she's totally clueless about it, so the dashing young commoner has to show her how to go about it."

...He...might be talking about a romance film or something."

As clueless as Yamato was about the 'commoner' life, even he could put two and two together in his drunken state.

"That sounds like a rather romantic film," Yamato pointed out, amusement clear in his tone. "Are you saying that you showing me how to live a normal life is romantic?"

pleasesayyespleasesayyes, a quiet voice whispered in the back of Yamato's head, but he ignored it. This was probably something brought on by the wine. Nothing serious...

He laughed a little in surprise.

"I guess, now that I'm thinking about it." After saying this, though, he kind of deflated.

"You didn't seem that open to it, after awhile..."

"I am open to it," Yamato said quickly, wanting to keep this line of conversation to...wherever it would lead. He wasn't entirely sure how to do this, and yes, he did come to the conclusion that he would be ill suited to romance and all the things that came with it, but he quite enjoyed the warmth this dangerous conversation brought him.

"We simply didn't have the time before to, to do such things, and our last meeting...well..."

[awww_yeeeeeaaaah]

"Mmn." He nodded.

"I really did want us to get along, you know?" With that, Kaito downed the rest of the wine, feeling freer and looser.

"That could...still be a thing. The "common life" thing, I mean."

"Really," Yamato murmured, reaching up to tug at his tie, loosening it up a little. He felt a bit too warm for it to be so tight. "In what context now?"

Since they had been discussing how romantic it was.

He gave a sly smile at that.

"That depends."

Yamato actually felt his heart skip a beat at the sight of the sly smile, and he cleared his throat, tugging at his tie again as he fought the urge to glance away. It was thrilling! He was unaware such forays into this dangerous territory would leave him as nervous as facing down a furious Cerberus.

"Depends on what, exactly?" he asked, sounding cautiously happy despite the pessimistic mantra in the back of his head saying this wouldn't turn out well.

"Depends on what you want the context to be."

Get his meaning, Yamato.

Yamato got it, but he suddenly found himself a bit nervous. If he said it aloud, then he was opening himself up to rejection again, and that had been quite...unpleasant to deal with. But if he was reading the signs correctly...

"Then, if...I say, that I would like it to, to be in a romantic sense, then that would be...fine?" he asked. He didn't sound confident, in fact, he actually sounded like the socially awkward teenager he was, and not Chief of JP's, uncertain and perhaps a bit anxious about the answer.

"Of course." With that, he gently took hold of Yamato's tie and tugged at it.

"I just want you to be happy, Yamato."

Kaito said yes?

"You- really?" Yamato blurted, looking genuinely surprised - and actually, cautiously happy. Well, you succeeded, Kaito. Yamato looked over the moon with happiness.

"Yeah! Look at you, you're actually smiling."

He wasn't sure why that was so amusing to him, but it was about time Yamato had a genuine smile instead of that weird fakey one that was really similar to Saiduq's

"Ah..." Yamato was smiling genuinely. It had...been a long while since he did that. He chuckled softly, fidgeting slightly - Kaito still had a hold on his tie after all. "Yes, I am. It's...nice."

"Of course it's nice. What makes you think you're not suited for this kinda stuff?"

Because that was still really alien to him, wow.

"...Experience, mostly," Yamato admitted, the alcohol and happy fuzzy feelings loosening his tongue. "Alcor has already informed you on what I got up to with a few of my teachers when I was younger. I acted badly in such situations. I thought I would act badly in this as well."

But this time there was none of those dark emotions of dominance and disgust, of boredom and distance. He just felt warm and happy, and, wow, really, he was beginning to get what Kaito meant now...!

Then his work here was done.

"How about now...?"

"Now, I..." Yamato wasn't sure. "I admit, I will still act badly, habits are hard to break after all, but there is a possibility I might...be able to try, at the very least."

He abruptly chuckled. "Even if I don't have the slightest idea on how this even works."

[awww_yeeeeeaaaah]

"That's okay. Nobody actually knows what they're doing when it comes to this stuff. They just wing it!"

Well, except for Kaito, obviously...

"That sounds awful," Yamato said bluntly, but his tone wasn't harsh, only matter-of-fact. "Many things go horribly wrong when you just 'wing it'."

[awww_yeeeeeaaaah]

"Yeah, but it's still okay to not know what you're doing at first. You're never gonna get anywhere if you keep worrying about messing up."

"But to make mistakes in this..." Yamato began, some hesitance beginning to creep into his tone. This was a very...very very delicate situation. Romance and becoming close to someone, it opened you up to direct attack, and meant that mistakes would have devastating effects...

And Kaito just smiles.

"What makes you think I won't forgive you?"
