It began entirely by accident, really.

Anant had learned that one celebrated the turning of the New Year - a novel experience, really! A world that didn't stand still, that had the cycle of night and day, and the turning of the seasons; the thought of beginning time anew was something beautiful and magnificent to the deluded god. No wonder humans would celebrate such an event!

Dionysus had suggested that perhaps wine would be the best thing to toast the New Year with - and, of course, it would be best to celebrate it where the moon was high in the sky and the stars in view. Atmosphere was just as important! Their quest took them to the square in the Scorpio Ward, nicely fixed up from a past event (something about scorpions, they didn't pry). Anant, of course, brought their own table.

Dionysus supplied the wine, Anant pushed it upon those who were passing by at the time, and soon a crowd began to gather. It started small, but Anant's bubbly personality, delicious wine, and the lighthearted atmosphere drew more and more Hinoto-Ri natives to the scene, and eventually, some of the new arrivals. By the time the clock struck midnight, on the New Years, a large impromptu party had taken over the square!

The free alcohol was possibly the cause of it, but so long as everyone was happy and having fun, why should Anant object to such a thing! To observe such a large congregation of people together - it was magical! Fantastical!

Devious.

It was just past half past twelve in the morning when the 'effect's began appearing. But what did one expect, accepting alcohol from the God of Lunacy? With the moon so high on the sky, washing down on the people below, on such a jovial occasion, how couldn't Dionysus splash a bit of mischief in there?

So have fun, my fellow inhabitants. This night will surely be memorable...

"No, there are... strange things going on here. I'm not completely myself, but I'm not fully mortal either. I've been in a limbo state for... it has to be over two years now." NOt that long, really, in the grand scheme of things. BUt longer than she'd ever had before.

"Well, that's... a relief, I would imagine? Somewhat? ....It seems wholly unfair to me, that you would have but one day until having to die, when the rest of us--"

A pause, catching himself.

"Well, when so many people, at any rate, have at least years before a single death. I couldn't imagine if--"

Another pause again, another thought interrupting his previous train of it.

"...how was it you died, before? At the end of each day, I mean? Wait, no, that's... that's hardly appropriate to ask, is it." Sigh.

He looked down, biting his lip, his wings sinking subtly. He was starting to feel like he was probably only dragging up bad memories for her which she would've had every right to be upset at him over. He knew he'd probably have been unhappy, were the line of questioning turned on him.

"Sorry...."

She gives him a comforting smile. This is familiar territory for her, but it must sound so strange to an outsider. "The whole reason I started was that someone asked me how I'd like it if it happened to me. It turned out... not that much. I can't let myself forget that."

"So the point was to die, rather than to learn how to live?"

He was quiet a moment at that, thinking it over. "I hope you're having fun with the life part of it, regardless...."

"Well, both, really. To really understand what people go through when they die, I have to experience how amazing life is. And it is. And the last two years have let me experience things I never expected." One of these days she will stop thinking there's nothing left that can surprise her. Maybe next Thursday.

"I... suppose it would be too personal a question, to ask what sort of things?" He gave her another soft smile. "...I suppose I'm simply getting old enough that I've been beginning to take some things for granted, lately... so I suspect that being here awhile may do me a bit of good. I hope you're finding things here to your liking as well? More new things to see, and to experience?"

"Well, I'd always had my siblings, but there were other kinds of family that had never really come up for me. I had grandkids of sort in Mayfield, and that was a ton of fun." Well, also cause for a lot of worrying, but mostly fun.

And then she giggles, because there was another thing. "And romantic love. Did not see that coming."

He made some soft sound at that, smiling a little as he looked back to the drawing of her, to continue on that. "Must be nice. ....I have my brothers, at home. I know there was once a point, long ago, where I didn't expect I would. But I do, now. It's... nice, I suppose."

"Family... any sort of love, really, is a wonderful thing to find." Death... hadn't always been a romantic but she had definitely become one a long time ago. Which is why her smile right now is a little on the goofy side.

"I'm sure it is." He managed a bit more of a smile, looking down still, and pulled his wings just a bit tighter to him. There was something he wasn't saying just yet.

"And your love takes the form of a skeleton?" He was pretty sure that's what she'd said, amid his confusion about named weapons. "...I suppose even if anything did happen to either of you, it wouldn't necessarily stop the two of you from being together, would it."

What with being Death and all. It made sense to him, at least.

"It's not that so much as being able to talk about things that... no one else quite understands. Like being the one who can't ever die." She's pretty sure there's something there. And she does try to be approachable. "Losing people... that you might say I'm a bit of an expert on."

"...Watching as they age over the years, and you don't?" His wings sank subtly, pencil moving again over the drawing, adding more detail to it. "And you know you'll just have to say goodbye to them for good, sooner or later?"

"The Endless, they call us. But I'm the only one who truly is." She smiles at him. "This one took me millions of years to figure out, but I'm going to give it to you for free. Everything ends. THat means either nothing is worth caring about, or everything is. One approach is going to bring a lot more misery than the other."
