What: Aftermath of Anoli Attack: Hospital
Where: Leo Ward - Caduceus Hospital Headquarters
Summary: It is the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies. The injured have been taken to Caduceus Hospital Headquarters, and it is time for reflection, visting, or old-fashioned escapes from the hospital rooms.
Warnings: Mild squick if people want to describe their wounds in explicit detail.

Caduceus Hospital Headquarters. It has a distinguished history within Hinoto-Ri, boasting of a staff of well-trained Healers, as well as possessing the most cutting edge medical technology possible. There was no limb they couldn't reattach, no organ they couldn't replace... - they even claimed to be able to bring someone back from the dead (with the small disclaimer that it could only occur under certain conditions and with an obscene amount of luck).

So needless to say, the hospital was more than well-equipped to deal with the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies.

Nearly every hospital bed had been filled by an injured patient that night. The A&E room had been in constant chaos, with civilians crying and shouting, searching for loved ones, or demanding to see doctors or healers to help so-and-so...

There had also been plenty of reporters milling about, shouting and crying over the status of the Mayor's Secretary, and whether the Red Lion had really died at the scene, or if he was still alive and well within the safety of the hospital's ICU.

By the time morning broke, there was a false sense of tranquillity within the hospital. The healers had been pushed to their limits with the sheer number of patients being wheeled in and out of surgery, but otherwise, the situation had finally gotten under control. Now, both civilians and visitors were merely waiting for word of the conditions of their injured friends and family...

[Welcome to the winding down of the event! You are now at the hospital, where you may be visiting the injured, or be one of the injured yourself! Those with RED injuries will be in the ICU, and those with YELLOW injures will be in normal wards, for obvious reasons. Those with GREEN injuries wouldn't have had to go to the hospital at all, so they are free to come and go as they wish!

Shiki popped in a few moments later after the nurses gave her the okay. She would have gone to Neku's room sooner, but she wanted to get him a few things. The girl bought a sudoku and crossword puzzle book (with a pen to go with them) and a cupcake (probably an attempt to sweeten Neku's disposition).

She lightly tapped on his door, peeking her head in. "Hey. Can I come in?"

Neku sat up in bed a little at her voice. He hadn't expected visitors, but it was still nice. "Yeah. It's not like I'm doing anything."

"I hope not," she chuckles, letting herself in. "You need to rest."

She spotted the armchair that was near Neku's bed and made her way towards that, taking a seat on it. "How are you holding up?

"... I'll live. So to speak." He shrugged a little bit. "My leg is kind of messed up but it'll be fine."

He was quiet for a few moments. "... At least it wasn't a gunshot this time."

Shiki was quiet for a few moments as well, letting Neku's words sink in. She could only imagine how much of what Joshua did to her partner messed him up in the Game. She shook her head, deciding not to dwell on that any longer. She reached her hand out, putting it on top of Neku's.

"Yeah." She gives him a tiny smile of reassurance. "You'll be okay."

Neku nodded, looking down at her hand for a bit.

"I... kind of feel like I should tell you. My second week in the Game... they took another entry fee. I didn't know what they were going to take, but... they took you."

He hunched his shoulders slightly, trying to gather strength before he moved on with what he was saying.

"I didn't understand it at first. Why would they take you? I'd only known you a week. But... then I realized. Ever since... well, the last friend I had before you... he died. A few years ago. I shut people out. What was the point, when people were just going to die and leave you alone? ... But you wouldn't let me. You dragged me out, kicking and screaming. ... And you were my first friend since then. So... I guess what I'm trying to say is... thanks. A lot. I wouldn't have - I couldn't have done everything, survived three weeks in the Game, without your help."

His cheeks flushed a bit. "That uh. That sounded kinda sappy. Sorry about that."

She knew she was his entry fee for his second week in the game but she never knew why she was taken in the first place. The memory of how she found out was pretty clear in her mind now, making her cheeks flush. She was really embarrassed but at the same time, happy that he thought of her that way. Shiki listened quietly, lacing her fingers with his and giving his hand a gentle squeeze as he went on.

"Neku..." she said finally, moving so that she can give him a hug, shifting to make sure she doesn't accidentally remove his IV because of the gesture. "It's not sappy. And... I have to thank you, too."

"... That's what friends are for, right?" He really... wasn't sure anymore. "I'm not so good at this friend stuff sometimes, but I know you. You'll just yell at me until I get it right, right?"

And to take his pants off, but that's something else.

If you took better care of your clothes, maybe Shiki wouldn't have to resort to making you take your pants off, Neku.

Anyway... ~~I digress. >w>~~

"Yeah..." she chuckled, squeezing him gently. "I will! We'll get through it together. You're being a good friend now though."

He hugged her back, gently. It was... awkward, to say the least, but it was there.

That my friends is progress. Shiki pulled away from Neku, beaming at her friend.

"Ah!" She turned around, grabbing the paper bag she had brought with her and handed it to Neku. "I got these for you. Sudoku books so you won't get bored and a little something else."

Neku blinked, and rubbed the back of his neck a little.

"Thanks, Shiki. It's pretty quiet around here..."

Too quiet. It made him nervous.

Aww Neku.

"You're welcome. I can keep visiting you so it won't be so quiet."

At least he could definitely count on her on being noisy for once.
