Farewell Happy Fields!
Farewell Happy Fields!
☯
What: Aftermath of Anoli Attack: Hospital
Where: Leo Ward - Caduceus Hospital Headquarters
Summary: It is the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies. The injured have been taken to Caduceus Hospital Headquarters, and it is time for reflection, visting, or old-fashioned escapes from the hospital rooms.
Warnings: Mild squick if people want to describe their wounds in explicit detail.
Caduceus Hospital Headquarters. It has a distinguished history within Hinoto-Ri, boasting of a staff of well-trained Healers, as well as possessing the most cutting edge medical technology possible. There was no limb they couldn't reattach, no organ they couldn't replace... - they even claimed to be able to bring someone back from the dead (with the small disclaimer that it could only occur under certain conditions and with an obscene amount of luck).
So needless to say, the hospital was more than well-equipped to deal with the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies.
---
Nearly every hospital bed had been filled by an injured patient that night. The A&E room had been in constant chaos, with civilians crying and shouting, searching for loved ones, or demanding to see doctors or healers to help so-and-so...
There had also been plenty of reporters milling about, shouting and crying over the status of the Mayor's Secretary, and whether the Red Lion had really died at the scene, or if he was still alive and well within the safety of the hospital's ICU.
By the time morning broke, there was a false sense of tranquillity within the hospital. The healers had been pushed to their limits with the sheer number of patients being wheeled in and out of surgery, but otherwise, the situation had finally gotten under control. Now, both civilians and visitors were merely waiting for word of the conditions of their injured friends and family...
[Welcome to the winding down of the event! You are now at the hospital, where you may be visiting the injured, or be one of the injured yourself! Those with RED injuries will be in the ICU, and those with YELLOW injures will be in normal wards, for obvious reasons. Those with GREEN injuries wouldn't have had to go to the hospital at all, so they are free to come and go as they wish!
You may all start your threads and mingle!]

He didn't offer the feather just yet, though, running his fingers over it, locking the barbs back together again properly. It was a middling to smallish one -- a contour feather, a mere four inches in diameter, and fairly circular -- and he didn't even need to look down to it, to know what he was doing. Long practice tended to help with that, and instinct.
"...hey," he said, quietly, offering the other a small smile first.

But after identifying him, his gaze went back down to his hands, which had his four fingers interlocked together.
"Hi. Can I help you with something?"
He certainly didn't know why anyone would visit him after that embarrassing display at the stadium. Apparently, everyone else had been quite heroic while he had been tossed aside like a doll.

Blame the complete and utter lack of any fighting-related training whatsoever. And then there was that blue glow, and some flying lady was chasing after him. Persona? Pfff, like he realized what he'd freaked out hard enough to summon, finally, and--
Well, the less Kais knew about that, probably the better. That wasn't why he was here now.
Here as in the hospital, sure, but not-- Oh, whatever.
"Well..." He lowered his stance a bit, bringing their heights a little closer. He glanced at Kais's expression, and then gently slipped the big feather into the other's hands. "The guards, where I come from, keep my clan's feathers as good luck charms. So I thought, maybe... for what it's worth...."
Lookit that, Kais. Someone was wishing you good luck!
no subject
"Good luck?"
He was stuck staring at the feather, wondering if it had any magic or sorcery involved. Not that he was worried about that kind of thing but it never hurt to be cautious. Especially when you come from a universe where bad things happen all the time.
"It has supernatural properties?"
no subject
Okay, that was reaching, and he knew it. His smile was more sheepish at that. He sighed. "Not that I'm aware of, no. But our humans seem to hope otherwise."
Just a non-magical feather. A really huge one, but still just a normal feather, otherwise.
If a feather from a big vampire bird-person can be normal.
no subject
No, not really. His last item of 'luck', he ended up breaking with his own hands. Kais still had the pieces on him, even if he felt like they would betray him again.
"I'll try to take good care of it."
no subject
He wasn't sure what he had to offer, at the moment, so perhaps it was best to let the other decide if there was anything he wanted.
no subject
Both of which seemed highly impossible. He didn't expect any level of acceptance from either of those.

He sighed and took a seat a little ways away on the bench, his wings folding up oddly, such that he could keep them around him still, to preen over them with his hands.
"But you made it out alive... right? So it could very well have been worse, and yet it wasn't. That must count for something, to you...?"
no subject
"I would prefer to have been hurt more. At least it wouldn't feel like I was...ignored."
Which was a shot to his pride. Like he was a secondary danger so they just tossed him aside to deal with the more powerful threats. Kais was supposed to be the most threatening thing there...
no subject
"If they underestimated you, and turned their attention elsewhere... couldn't that be to your advantage? If they're not on guard so much against attacks from you.... I mean, intimidation tactics are mostly good if you're confident you can either outmatch the other overwhelmingly, in case they raise their guard to try to match the perceived threat, or can present yourself well enough to scare them into being less effective, perhaps to the point you don't have to do much of anything yourself, compared to otherwise."
So an artist knew at least some basic thing about fighting. A really timid artist, at that.
Burdie, why are you calmly discussing the psychology of it, when such things work so effortlessly against you yourself?no subject
So much for the technology of the Tau. Not when they had magic and psychic abilities. Not a single Tau had that kind of power so he wondered how easily they would crumple if he couldn't even take on a single, small threat.
no subject
"Not everyone needs to attack directly; some really have no business using a sword against Turelim in the first place, and so they take to archery, or fly reconnaissance for those that do. I've heard of hunting parties coming back unscathed, three against their six, because one was able to let the other two know exactly what to expect, and they set traps."
He sighed, looking down. "I know I certainly have no business fighting. I couldn't even get away from the crowd, a bit ago. So if something like that happens again...." He was quiet a moment, thinking about it. Couldn't get away from the crowd, though? He had wings. How could he not get away? (Spoiler: he failed to try actually flying away.)
"I... wouldn't object to helping coordinate others' efforts, and letting them know what I could find, from wherever I was. That can be an integral part of a good strategy. Though, it makes me wish I'd learned more about these sorts of things from my brothers... I never did study under them for it. I suppose I'll simply have to catch up here." He didn't appear to be looking forward to the prospect much, but it was hard to tell exactly what he thought of it, as calm as he was managing to keep his expression and tone. It also seemed likely that he wasn't just saying these things for Kais's benefit, but his own as well. He'd admitted already to not being a fighter, but now, faced with the Anoli and the threats they seemed plenty willing to back up with violence, there seemed to be little choice but to do something to help the others here against them.
