Farewell Happy Fields!

Farewell Happy Fields!

What: Aftermath of Anoli Attack: Hospital
Where: Leo Ward - Caduceus Hospital Headquarters
Summary: It is the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies. The injured have been taken to Caduceus Hospital Headquarters, and it is time for reflection, visting, or old-fashioned escapes from the hospital rooms.
Warnings: Mild squick if people want to describe their wounds in explicit detail.

Caduceus Hospital Headquarters. It has a distinguished history within Hinoto-Ri, boasting of a staff of well-trained Healers, as well as possessing the most cutting edge medical technology possible. There was no limb they couldn't reattach, no organ they couldn't replace... - they even claimed to be able to bring someone back from the dead (with the small disclaimer that it could only occur under certain conditions and with an obscene amount of luck).

So needless to say, the hospital was more than well-equipped to deal with the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies.

---

Nearly every hospital bed had been filled by an injured patient that night. The A&E room had been in constant chaos, with civilians crying and shouting, searching for loved ones, or demanding to see doctors or healers to help so-and-so...

There had also been plenty of reporters milling about, shouting and crying over the status of the Mayor's Secretary, and whether the Red Lion had really died at the scene, or if he was still alive and well within the safety of the hospital's ICU.

By the time morning broke, there was a false sense of tranquillity within the hospital. The healers had been pushed to their limits with the sheer number of patients being wheeled in and out of surgery, but otherwise, the situation had finally gotten under control. Now, both civilians and visitors were merely waiting for word of the conditions of their injured friends and family...

[Welcome to the winding down of the event! You are now at the hospital, where you may be visiting the injured, or be one of the injured yourself! Those with RED injuries will be in the ICU, and those with YELLOW injures will be in normal wards, for obvious reasons. Those with GREEN injuries wouldn't have had to go to the hospital at all, so they are free to come and go as they wish!

You may all start your threads and mingle!]
poorlittleblueburdie: Avitus, with his eyes closed (eyes closed)

Avitus paused, still running his odd hands through his huge wings' feathers, until he caught one that was loose. He pulled it out with a quick little tug, and ran it through his fingers, locking the barbs as he stepped in -- it was probably about fourteen inches long, and six or so wide, round and shiny black, and somewhat stiff... nothing like a common bird's should be, with its size.

He stayed quiet, taking a few more steps inside... and then his wings sank down as he took in the sight on the bed, the smell of the damage apparent to him even through the hospital's cleaners. It reminded him a little of how some of his Citadel's human guards had been brought back, once... but they hadn't lived, even with his brother Vedast's healing Gift, that blue glow of soft, warm energy which mended flesh and bone under his hand.

And Vedast wasn't here. He didn't know how the doctors here were managing; he hadn't seen it for himself, nor had they had to use any of their methods on him; his own healing had taken care of him quite well, once he'd fed again. But this... Avitus wondered, again, why he had to have been stuck with the Gifts he had. Why couldn't he have ended up with the Gift of healing, instead of--

He could have helped with things like this! And instead, he was passing out feathers, the good luck charms of superstitious humans.

It wasn't fair.

It wasn't fair to these people, it wasn't fair to--

Stop it.

Still silent, he took a slow breath to compose himself again, reaching up to rub his eyelashes, carefully, with the back of a knuckle. He wouldn't let seeing this sort of thing get to him too much; it wouldn't do to be unable to even do so little as he already was. He figured that if anyone could use a little bit of good luck, a little protection, if there was anything to the humans' superstitions after all, the fellow on the bed here would be such a man. And as much as he knew it was only a feather, he could hope it would help somehow. If nothing else, perhaps some small measure of entertainment, or morale -- goodness knew the latter was important, for those who weren't well.

He reached over, setting the feather gently on the blanket, where Garviel could see it when he woke up.

Unless Garviel simply had his eyes closed, at the moment. Avitus hadn't thought to check if he was awake or not, honestly.

He stood there a moment, head bowed a little, biting the inside of his lip as he brought his wings up around himself in sort of a hug again, and silently took a little moment to hope that the man was, at the least, not in pain, before he turned to leave again.

"What are you doing here?"

Loken sits up, growling. Apparently he was just testing out his own ability to go into suspended animation after his mauling. (No really they can do that)

Avitus looked up quickly at that, turning to see the man on the bed, eyes wide in surprise. He clearly hadn't expected him to be conscious, let alone sit up again, and his wings sank further.

But it passed quickly enough -- the man was sitting up and talking! How was this not a good sign, regarding his condition?

He gave him a smile... look, Garviel, the weird xeno bird person's happy to see you up! and-- wait, he'd just been asked something.

"I was checking on people. Many here could use a little cheering up, so I just thought...."

"I'll be all right." He is still scowling, however. At the strange xeno-breed.

"They didn't have what it takes to kill me."

Not even close, really.

"As I'm glad to discover. They've killed enough as it is, it's a relief to see those who've pulled through."

If Garviel's going to make grumpy faces at him, he'll just have to be as legitimately cheerful as he can manage, in return. Maybe his presented attitude would rub off on the human?

Nope. Not never.

"They'll pay for that. Justice shall be done, the dead may rest assured."

Nod, nod! Still trying to be cheerful! But Garviel's surly mood, plus his size and attitude... well, he's doing what he can to stay upbeat, but this guy reeks of intimidation, and the burdie's hardly brave. If his relaxed facade is at all slipping, it's the involuntary little things -- the way his feathers aren't quite lying flat on his wings, the way he held his hands together over his robe's sash, absently rubbing one of his six large, black nails, just barely out of easy view of anyone else.

But he's going to keep this up. He's determined, for now, to do so. If he can make Garviel smile, or at least not be so sour, then he'll feel more accomplished!

"I'm sure. It's... nice to know someone so strong is determined to keep everyone safe."

Is he really trying to... flatter the big guy?

((Oh, burdie.... No.))

He doesn't speak, the silent wolf just watching the blue bird like a predator watching prey, despite the difference in their levels of health at the moment.

poorlittleblueburdie: Avitus, not really making any sort of face (neutral)

That smile was starting to fade a bit, and his efforts to polish his nail increase by fractions. And not all that small of fractions, at that.

"I take it you won't be held up here for much longer, then...?"

Still trying. Sorry, Garviel. Maybe not trying for much longer; those feathers are starting to look a bit more obviously fluffy. But still trying, for now.
