Summary: The Time of Truthiness is upon Hinoto-Ri!

It begins. A strange aura spreads out over Hinoto-Ri, stealing into the hearts, minds, and mouths of every denizen of the city, changing them - embiggening their souls with the power of TRUTHINESS.

For one week, Hinoto-Ri becomes a city where no lies can exist. Who is responsible for this? Will their dedication to ABSOLUTE TRUTHINESS bring them victory...or defeat?

[And this is what she gets for trying to melee when she's not suited for it in the slightest.

But she's learned to pay attention to the movements of monsters, both at home and here in Hinoto-Ri. When she sees it begin to spew ice, she drops the telekinesis and instead focuses on creating a barrier between themselves and Legion's attack.]

I... won't let you-!

[Even if Lucas is experienced in battle, he's still a child - that was enough to convince her that he had to be protected at all costs.

Fortunately, her skill with barriers is much greater than her fighting ability when it comes to dealing physical damage. A rounded, transparent wall appears before them, deflecting the ice away from the two.]

[The Legion gurgles and squelches in surprise as it watches its attacks bounce away. Still, its two opponents remained largely disabled; it has no qualms about letting loose with another blast of ice from its gaping maws.]

...Let it come through!

[Lucas's cry comes sharply; he has, it seems, been inspired by Aoi's actions. From his position on the floor, the boy holds up a hand glowing with an incandescent blue light.]

[She does hesitate for a second, less out of lack of trust and more from surprise. But if fighting alongside her friends had taught her anything, it was that there was usually a good reason for what might seem like a strange request.

Thus, she will obligingly allow the barrier to drop, although her body still remains as tense as it can under the weight of the Bind. Hopefully whatever Lucas has in mind will work-!]

[Whatever Lucas has in mind seems to entail getting struck by the ice, since he does absolutely nothing to prevent himself from being battered by the shards. He braces himself as the Ice Dance connects.

As they hit him, though... Strangely, it is the Legion that lets loose a grotesque cry rather than Lucas, and as they watch, the gases keeping its body afloat spew forth from the jagged wounds that have appeared on its body. The thing slowly begins to collapse...]

Try to spear it now!

[She does tense as the Ice Dance hits him, and is very much about to rush to his aid when she notices Legion's reaction. And when Lucas calls out to her, she snaps back into battle mode.

The gash-like marks are back, and her naginata begins to move once again. It floats up into the air for just a moment before making a fast thrust at the demon.]

[Fate or maybe just good aim guides her hand straight towards one of the gashes in the Legion's skill. The naginata flies straight through the demon and emerges out the other side.]

Gggguuuooooooooooooh!

[The gaseous creature explodes! ...And sends a clattering of coins to the pavement. Lucas, freed from the effects of the Bind slowly clambers to his feet.]

...It's dead.

[Similarly released, she stands up straight again, guiding the naginata back to her hand. Once she's got a hold of it again, she'll stop using her power, allowing her appearance to return to normal.]

Seems that way...

[She turns then to Lucas, hurriedly coming to his side and bending over somewhat so she's a little closer to his height.]

Are you alright? You didn't get hurt during all of that, did you?

[Even now, she's checking him over for visible wounds.]

[Lucas is bleeding from a few spots where the ice had speared him, actually, but even as she asks, the boy is holding a faintly glowing hand to his injuries and covering them with a luminous blue light.]

I was, a little bit.

[...He had meant to say 'I'm OK', but. He supposes that's fine, too.]

It won't be much to heal, though. Thank you for helping me, miss.

[Ah... so he is another healer. She could tap into her own power to do the same, but since he seems to know what he's doing, she'll refrain.]

It was a difficult fight... [Ah, she meant "It wasn't any trouble."]

...Why are you out here at this time? It's very dangerous, no matter how much experience in battle you may have. And for someone your age, especially...!

[Lucas doesn't particularly want to answer that question, but he should try and say something to soothe her anxiety. She was just being kind...]

Something happened today. I couldn't sleep and staying in my room made me feel like crying.

[His eyes grow wide as his mouth betrays him.]

T-T-That's not -- That's not what I was going to say.

[Her own eyes grow wide at his admission, but it's quickly replaced with a look of sympathy.]

--I'm sorry. [For whatever he must have gone through, to send such a young child out on the streets in desperation to escape that sorrow. Her words are completely heartfelt.]

Do you... want to talk about it?

Not... really, n-no.

[Well at least that had emerged intact. Lucas turns beet red and glances away.]

I'm sorry, miss. I know you're trying to help...

[She presses her lips in a fine line, but only briefly before giving a small nod of understanding.]

It's alright. But in the meantime... We need to get somewhere safe.

[But if his apartment is no good...]

I realize I am a stranger to you but... If you can't return to your room, there's space in my home for you to stay at least a little while. The demons won't enter, and you'll be safe until you can return.

[Lucas nods slightly in response to her remarks. Staying outside would be inviting more trouble... and he had blown off enough steam for the night.]

You want me to stay with you, miss?

I... I'd hate being a bother to you, though.

[She shakes her head, giving a small, encouraging smile.]

It's no trouble, really. I wouldn't have offered if it was. Besides, one of the people living with me is there for similar reasons.

[...Whoops, a little too much detail there.]

I don't want to be alone...

[Lucas stops being surprised that he is saying things he would never usually say and settles for an expression of dull resignation. He doesn't look Aoi in the eyes, though.]

You know, myself included, there are three of us living at my house. You don't need to stay long, but... there will definitely be company for you there. And the other two are very kind, so if you don't want to be crowded, I'm sure they will respect that as well.

[She holds out a hand to him.]

Shall we go?

[He hesitates for only a few moments longer before he slowly reaches forward to take her hand.]

Maybe... just a little while. Thank you, miss.

...Um. My name is Lucas.

My name is Aoi Misato. It's nice to meet you, Lucas.

[And she'll hold onto his gently as she stands up straight again.]

My home is in Libra, so it will be a bit of a walk, but... if we're careful, I think we can avoid the worst of the demons.

[She doesn't want him to have to fight anymore tonight, if possible.]

...It's nice to meet you, too.

[Lucas grips perhaps a little more tightly than Aoi does, the tension running through his body still unabated.]

Um. I think the demons should be alright... I walked around a little before I ran into that one - I came from Libra, too.

Is that so? That's a relief.

[She'll begin walking along, then! And making as pleasant talk as possible for the duration of it.]

How long have you been here, Lucas?

A month or two. ...It's been so strange; I've almost forgotten to keep track.

[Casting his mind back, though, he had certainly arrived in mid-summer. The perfect time for pool parties and ice cream.]

What about you?

It was December when I came here... A little before Christmas, if you're familiar with that holiday. So in all, I have been here for around eight months.

Eight months...?

[Lucas can't quite keep the slight gasp from emerging.]

That long, really? ...And you've been OK with staying here all that time?

[She falls quiet for a moment before speaking again.]

I worry a lot about my friends, of course. Even though we defeated the person we thought was behind all of the demon attacks, it seems there is still more to it than we had thought. The idea of them fighting without me is... difficult.

But I can't bring myself to abandon the people here, either. Times are desperate, and if there's anything I can do to help them, I want to give it my all.
