Finally it was time for the mayor, Kazuki Sakahagi, to speak up. Not even an thirty minutes left to the celebrations, but seeing him go appeared to be lighting up a spark in the citizens. It wasn't too hard to see why; his enthusiastic grin and way of walking could easily melt anyone's worry away.

He walked to the center stage as cheering broke out, two men in black and Junko Tanako behind him.

Misery narrows her eyes. Just as expected, really. They drew him out -- and they drew him out in the worst way possible. The fools.

His words are... interesting. He has a point, there's no doubt about it. The world outside isn't as bad as they say, hmm? She had her suspicions, and this may have confirmed them. Not that she particularly cares.

His methodology, however, is just as inane as she expected. Almost as inane as the mayor's stupid braggadacio. And blaming THEM for all this? If he wants converts from their side, he's lost HER vote.

Quietly, Misery palms her staff. The cleanup job is about to begin.

It is eerily silent. Overcome with shock and perhaps, enthralled by the words of the Anoli, the crowd lets hardly a whisper loose. Behind Misery, a boy speaks as softly as he can.

"Toldya it'd come at the awards ceremony. Just, uh... I guess, not our awards ceremony."

He glances up towards the screen with the talking head.

"What do you think? ...Some of it makes sense."

[misery_hates_company]

"All sides make some sort of sense. That doesn't make the rest of it any less idiotic."

She narrows her eyes. "Some men talk big. Give them a seat of power, however, and they're just as stupid and worthless as anybody. If I will be free, I will be free by my own decree. Not his. Not the government's. Mine."

She sideeyes him. "And you... what will you do, hearing this?"

[otakuro]

"Join the Anoli and ascend to the heights of power like I was always meant to do."

Atsuro responds matter-of-factly before smiling wanly.

"Right now, we have to protect the people here from being hurt. After that... we can sort out the truth from the lies later."

[misery_hates_company]

"You focus on that, then. Me... I intend to do a little cleanup." There's a bit of a wicked glint to her eye.

[otakuro]

"...Please don't tell me you're going to scavenge any bodies for potion materials."

[misery_hates_company]

"I assure you it's hardly anything like that." More like finding the biggest threats to her OWN existence and eliminating them with extreme prejudice.

[otakuro]

"I'll just trust you on that one." Atsuro allows himself a soft chuckle before -- the events of the following thread begin.

And cue drama.
