Conquestum Paradisi

☢

What: Closing Arena Ceremonies, Part 2
Where: Aries Arena & Televised
Summary: 1/24/10AC
Warnings: This could get serious...but who knows.

Finally it was time for the mayor, Kazuki Sakahagi, to speak up. Not even an thirty minutes left to the celebrations, but seeing him go appeared to be lighting up a spark in the citizens. It wasn't too hard to see why; his enthusiastic grin and way of walking could easily melt anyone's worry away.

He walked to the center stage as cheering broke out, two men in black and Junko Tanako behind him.

Minako can't say she has much trust in adults. She's been let down by too many adult figures in her life, from caretakers, to teachers and most spectacularly, Shuji Ikutsuki. The claim that the government may not be all that it seems is not too implausible, in that light.

But this masked man has done nothing to inspire her trust, either. If the Anoli are in possession of proof of what they claim, there are peaceful avenues to present it. They could present their knowledge right now if they want to.

But instead, they are trying to change the scapegoat of public opinion from themselves, to the government and the Visitors. And while she doesn't know if the government deserves it, the Visitors certainly do not. Someone who really wished the best for the city would understand that. This reeks of using panic for personal gain. And as the events continue to unfold, that only becomes more obvious.

"Ah... dramatic. But clever," Minato murmurs it in part to his sister. If he hadn't wanted her to hear, he would have kept silent, but as it was, he wondered at her opinion.

For his part, he hasn't much thought about trusting or not trusting the government so far, focusing much more on the here and now and wondering what Philemon's goals were than on thinking about the humans who ran this place. But now that it's been brought up, he does wonder...

Still, whether the Anoli have a point or not, he doesn't think they're going about it in the right way, and to try and turn the natives against the visitors seems counterproductive. If they really wanted freedom, wouldn't it make more sense to enlist the visitors in breaking free?

"It's too 'clever.' It's no better than what Strega was doing."

Takaya had been smooth and 'charismatic,' too. That didn't make his message any less poisonous.
