Finally it was time for the mayor, Kazuki Sakahagi, to speak up. Not even an thirty minutes left to the celebrations, but seeing him go appeared to be lighting up a spark in the citizens. It wasn't too hard to see why; his enthusiastic grin and way of walking could easily melt anyone's worry away.

He walked to the center stage as cheering broke out, two men in black and Junko Tanako behind him.

"Hah... Humans."

Viridi sounds weary.

"It's just like I thought. The major threat to this place isn't demons or the government or even the Anoli. It's the fact that you're humans. Like always, you're digging your own grave. ........What a joke. Instead of working together in a bad situation, you make little factions and tear at each other until there's nothing left of any side."

"Exactly. You've got it right on the money, Viridi."

He finally looks up, eyes glancing over the crowd whose nervousness is burgeoning like nothing else, and...there's nothing but apathy in his face. He almost seems bored.

"It's sad, but..that's what they'll do for the rest of their lives. It's just human nature."

[forceofnature]

"This is exactly why I wanted to push the reset button. Human nature is irrevocably corrupted. Something went wrong... I don't know when or how, but it's not the way it should be."

This isn't the time for another Viridi Rant TM, though, so she simply closes with a sigh.

"...You're not what you pretend to be, either, are you?"

"It was corrupted from the very beginning, Viridi. Believe me, I know."

With a sigh, he lets the thread down from his fingers, wrapping it around his index finger. At her question, he frowns, timidity creeping into his voice again.

"What is that supposed to mean? I-I'm myself, why should I pretend to be something I'm not?"

"Oh, come on. I'm short-tempered and easily provoked, not stupid. I'm also ridiculously genre-savvy, so there's that."

Viridi doesn't sound angry more than she continues to sound weary, despite her words.

"There's a place in my world -- No. Not in my world. Something... outside. We call it the Chaos Vortex. ......We don't talk about the Chaos Vortex. Not there's any real 'we' involved; I'm the only one who ever paid any attention to it.

"I'm just saying, your Persona wouldn't look out of place there. ...Don't cause too much trouble, Sam."

"I never said you were stupid. And honestly...genre-savvy? We're not in a movie or something, you know."

At her remark about the Chaos Vortex, though, he looks intrigued, though that look disappears quickly into something unreadable, because ugh, he hates it when people somehow inch under the curtain he's made for himself. And it's a time like that he needs to set up another curtain, another facade, to show that he's still harmless, despite what he is. He's still the pacifistic wimp he wants everyone to see him as...

"Me? Causing trouble? I-I don't do that, really. So what if my Persona reminds you of something from your Chaos Vortex? Doesn't mean I am too, okay? I'm just like everyone else, and I want to stay out of danger, too." He sounds very insistent. "My problems are my own, and I'm not forcing them on anyone, okay? Just...if people get hurt, they brought it on themselves. I'll never be involved in something like that..."

[forceofnature]

"...If you're going to talk like that, you need to talk like that all the time. Not just when I remind you."

A sigh before she continues.

"Whatever. Look, I have to go protect the idiot humans because blah blah good guy rhetoric whatever. Go knock yourself out."

He's silent. He even opens his mouth, as if to say something to that, but he takes it back immediately and just sighs, staring out at the crowd again.

"You go do your thing, Viridi, okay? I'm not going anywhere, don't worry."

[forceofnature]

"Worry? Please. The only thing I'm worried about is how much time I'm going to have to waste on this tonight."

Still, as the Anoli leader continues to drone on in the background, Viridi sounds... well. Worried. Her presence withdraws shortly after.

He looks up at that, as if expecting to see Viridi floating away somewhere as he feels her presence disappear, but then he gives a shrug and starts to wrap the string around his fingers again to make another cat's cradle.

Let her do what she wants. He'll just sit here and watch, like he always done.

There's no need to get involved in something as moronic as this...
