You've proven your worth to the city of Hinoto-Ri and this year the Masquerade is dedicated to you. You deserve the party, considering you saved the city from the Zodiac Monster! Besides, on the most powerful spiritual days, even the demons take a day off and enjoy a time of frightful good times with the humanoids.

The lights are all colored blue and purple, and the streets are filled with partygoers of all ages, in both fantastic and some-not-that-fantastic costumes. Pumpkins appear to be floating in the air, but once you come closer, you realize they are Pyro Jacks attending around. This is THEIR favorite holiday and they wouldn't have let it gone to waste!

Originally the Masquerade was to be celebrated around Scorpio's art center, but with the rebuilding still in process, it was moved close by, with the office of wands preparing all the charms needed. The streets need to be protected, considering the Full Moon was just a few days ago.

If you find yourself without any money, no worries! The Government has given you a bonus paycheck for your hard work last week. Costume shopping should be no problem, and the are still stores nearby selling their wears for last minute shopping!

With a small secure sector, it's sure to be an extra fantastic celebration of dancing, music and just watching both humans and demons going at it without much care. Candy is floating around thanks to the Pyro Jacks, grab something and try not to ruin your teeth. Hey, who IS that guy just passed by? Hard to tell.

After all, with these combination of Halloween costumes and a more high class masquerade ballgowns and masks, who knows is really human and who isn't?

"Your spiritual energy isn't hard to miss," Yamato said, his eyes narrowed behind his own mask. He was spiritually sensitive so it's not hard for him to pick out or sense demons. "But you didn't answer my question. Why are you dressed as a bear?"

Shura sighed. Shit, she had forgotten all about spiritually aware people. "I wanted a costume that would hide all my tattoos, for once, so I wouldn't get recognized and they wouldn't interfere with the costume. I mean, do you have any idea how much makeup it takes to hide inky black lines? Not to mention the glowing edges..."

"Hmm, I see..." Yamato tilted his head slightly. "...I will keep your identity secret then, if you wish it. What shall I call you for tonight?"

Shura grinned inside the costume. "You can call me Mister Bear."

"Mister Bear."

Yamato personally thought that was a ridiculous name, but, whatever, it wasn't him being called that. He heaved a sigh and shook his head a little, and then finally took stock of his surroundings. They were on the dance floor after all, and he looked a bit...bemused.

"Well then, Mister Bear, perhaps you can assist me. What is the purpose of this current gathering?"

"It's Halloween! It's a Western holiday where you disguise yourself for fun and eat candy. It's also some sort of day of the deads, I think." Clearly, it's nothing like the Bon festival.

Halloween? Yamato was aware of the day from a spiritual aspect, but he didn't know it had a celebratory culture surrounding it. If he remembered correctly, it was a Pagan holiday where the line between the world of the living and the dead was thin enough to allow spirits to walk the earth, wasn't it?

How did dressing up in costumes and eating sweets factor into that...?

"I see," Yamato said slowly, even though it was obvious he didn't.

The bear shrugged. "Westerners have weird holidays like that. All I know is I have a costume like I wanted and the Pyro Jacks are having fun."

"It seems like such a frivolous thing to celebrate," Yamato said, looking about the large crowds. Pyro Jacks, dancing, people in ball gowns and masquerade masks... it seemed a bit over the top, didn't it?

"So, it's just a 'party'..."

If it was only that, then Yamato could go home. He isn't exactly a party guy (because he's never been to one).

"You'd think so, uh? I don't know why we're celebrating it either, but after the scorpions shit, I needed a break." Shura suddenly spotted a lollipop about to float between them and caught it between her paws before offering it to Yamato. "And you look like you need one too." Come on Yamato. Sugar. It won't kill you to taste it.

"What is this?" Yamato asked with a small frown, cautiously taking the treat from Shura's paws. It was an orange and black swirled, hard looking circle attacked to a white stick. How was he supposed to eat this...?

You must have been very sheltered, Yamato. "It's a lollipop. You... hold it by the stick and then... you can lick it, or eat off little chunks of it."

You have no idea how sheltered this boy is.

Lick it, hm? It didn't seem like a very efficient way to eat something. He twirled the stick between his gloved fingers, inspecting it closely, before lifting it up to give it an experimental lick.

Hm... sweet...

"Any good?"

"..."

Yamato just nodded a little, his attention mostly focused on the lollipop. Okay, he is sufficiently bribed. You can now do whatever you want with him in tow.

Shura smiled inside her costume. How adorable.

"When this party's over, we should decide how we're gonna go about me learning skills from you."

...oh! Right. Yamato had almost forgotten.

"Yes. We can discuss it now if you wish?" Yamato hummed. He turned his head slightly. "Let us walk through... I dislike standing still in crowds."

Don't mind the guy passing by in the world's most flamboyant J-rock costume. Also please ignore the stare he gave before he walked off.

There were certain things a man shouldn't be hearing about another man's private life.

"No problem. This costume's a bit hot, anyway." Shura adjusts her bear head and begins walking toward the exit of the masquerade.

~~And then Nick Cage, smelling the sent of a woman in a bear suit, appeared for no reason, punched and kicked her, and then disappeared again.~~

Completely ignoring the strange flamboyant man who gave them an intense stare, Yamato turned and strode off the dance floor, once again focusing entirely upon his precious lollipop.

Shura guided him outside, in the decorated streets, where they would be mostly alone to talk. Even with a holiday, the curfew was still in effect, and though more crowded than usual, the streets were pretty empty once one stepped out of the protective circle set up for the masquerade.

"Ah, fresh air..."

"Hmm..."

Yamato felt a bit better now that they were out of the near claustrophobic press of bodies, and inhaled deeply, tilting his head back slightly to peer up at the sky.

"So you can only learn skills through a certain process, correct?"

"Yeah," Shura says, nodding as if Yamato could see her face. "My magatamas have taught me everything I know."

"And how exactly do they teach you skills?" Yamato asked, fascinated by this - it was rare for him to get his hands on a friendly human turned demon. Most who go through such transformations are driven insane and not lucid enough to answer questions.

Of course, those types usually ended up on the dissection table...

"Was it through some sort of symbiosis? That is the most common type."
