Farewell Happy Fields!
Farewell Happy Fields!

What: Aftermath of Anoli Attack: Hospital
Where: Leo Ward - Caduceus Hospital Headquarters
Summary: It is the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies. The injured have been taken to Caduceus Hospital Headquarters, and it is time for reflection, visting, or old-fashioned escapes from the hospital rooms.
Warnings: Mild squick if people want to describe their wounds in explicit detail.
Caduceus Hospital Headquarters. It has a distinguished history within Hinoto-Ri, boasting of a staff of well-trained Healers, as well as possessing the most cutting edge medical technology possible. There was no limb they couldn't reattach, no organ they couldn't replace... - they even claimed to be able to bring someone back from the dead (with the small disclaimer that it could only occur under certain conditions and with an obscene amount of luck).
So needless to say, the hospital was more than well-equipped to deal with the aftermath of the Anoli attack on the Closing Ceremonies.
---
Nearly every hospital bed had been filled by an injured patient that night. The A&E room had been in constant chaos, with civilians crying and shouting, searching for loved ones, or demanding to see doctors or healers to help so-and-so...
There had also been plenty of reporters milling about, shouting and crying over the status of the Mayor's Secretary, and whether the Red Lion had really died at the scene, or if he was still alive and well within the safety of the hospital's ICU.
By the time morning broke, there was a false sense of tranquillity within the hospital. The healers had been pushed to their limits with the sheer number of patients being wheeled in and out of surgery, but otherwise, the situation had finally gotten under control. Now, both civilians and visitors were merely waiting for word of the conditions of their injured friends and family...
[Welcome to the winding down of the event! You are now at the hospital, where you may be visiting the injured, or be one of the injured yourself! Those with RED injuries will be in the ICU, and those with YELLOW injures will be in normal wards, for obvious reasons. Those with GREEN injuries wouldn't have had to go to the hospital at all, so they are free to come and go as they wish!
You may all start your threads and mingle!]

ICU
Yu's wired up like some kind of machine, between the heart rate monitor and the tube down his throat helping him breathe and everything else that's making sure he stays alive. He got hit, hard; in addition to the equipment, his shoulder and part of his face is bandaged up, hiding a number of stitches underneath. His chest and midsection are also sporting more wrappings, hiding a skin graft placed over a massive burn from the attack that had knocked him unconscious. He hasn't woken up since the medics received him from a mysterious masked benefactor that night, and there's usually some doctor or other going in and out of his room, making sure he's still alive.
He'll... probably survive this, but one thing is for sure: Yu's not going to be waking up any time soon.

It also didn't help that a nurse was hunting her and trying to keep her in bed like a good patient. Like that was helping anyone.
Finally the doctor left and Yukiko could finally sneak into the room. There...was no words for what she saw.
"Oh god..." she breathed quietly, putting a hand over her mouth, seeing the damage. The girl was afraid to see what exactly was under those wrappings but she moved closer to Yu regardless. All the machines and tubes in him, it made her almost look away. Not because of disgust of what the Anoli did to him.
Because of what she did to him.
Everyone can say that it's not true, that he was protecting her, but it was just covering up the truth. He did jump in front of that attack and he was paying the price for it.
"...my fault...it's all my fault."
Yukiko trembled as she finally reached his bed, gripping the hospital gown she wore, head staying down.
"I'm so sorry...It should be me in there, not you. You should be home with Nanako-chan and safe."
She could feel wetness running down her cheeks, holding back sobs, trying to stay quiet before a nurse sees her.
"I wasn't strong enough for you...I shouldn't be so weak to this but...I rather be there than you. Everyone is pulling for you, even me. So please...if you can hear me..."
There was silence for just a moment.
"...forgive me."

Who knew how long she'd truly been there? That was not up for man to say. Though, there was a hand suddenly touching a less-injured part of the young Priestess's shoulder.
"...He can hear you, child." That she knew from experience, so it was spoken softly; as if only a whisper. "You need not worry yourself over that."
What was comforting? She did not know, but at least she was not here to claim his soul.

"It should be me lying there...he doesn't deserve this..."
Lucky that it's just Izanami there: if it were her friends, she would stay tight lipped and go as far away as she can. She just can't face them like this.

"Sensei doesn't need to forgive you, because you didn't do anything wrong, Yuki-chan....." Teddie says quietly, looking at her, "He'll say that himself when he wakes up."
Because there is no maybes or ifs with Teddie.

"Then why do I feel like this?"

Usually.
Naturally, though, she was up and around the hospital even sooner than she was supposed to be when she heard who else was here. And who was in ICU. In fact, she was in a bit of a rush as soon as she could disconnect herself from an IV...but of course, someone was there first.
She hesitated at the door for a moment, unsure if she should intrude, but a glimpse of Yukiko's face told her she probably should. She entered quietly.

Yeah, she's kind of in her own little world of self hating right now so any kind of good news would make her a little happy.

When she'd finally been fully released from the Inaba hospital last spring, she'd hoped she wouldn't have to go back again for a long time. The doctors and nurses are kind people, but everyone else is hurt and suffering and she doesn't like seeing the sad faces. When she'd been really sick, in the fall, even Big Bro and his friends had looked that way.
But now she's on the other side. Her big bro is the one in the hospital bed, not moving, and Nanako doesn't know what to do. Her Dad isn't here to talk to, and most of Yu's friends are hurt just like he is. All of them are strong and brave and the bad guys had still beaten them this badly.
If this is really what being a Persona-user means... Nanako isn't sure she wants to be one anymore.

No Nanako. You shouldn't be here.
That's what she wanted to say to her but that's her family lying there. She has the right to no matter how bad it looks. Yukiko barely enters the doorway for the second time, speaking quietly to the girl.
"Nanako-chan..."

But she smiles at Yukiko as she enters the room. "He's still asleep right now..."

"Teddie's going to stay with you, Nana-chan. I promise!"
no subject
"Thank you, Teddie... I'm glad you're okay." The last part betrays the worry she's been feeling. She's not even sure yet how many of her friends are here as visitors, and how many as patients...

He approaches slowly, making sure that she'll be aware of his presence.
"Hello... young miss?"

"Hello..." She's still wary around strangers, due to her father's careful coaching, but she's not unfriendly.

He has to admit, he thinks the guy's kinda weird most of the time. What with his, uh, odd extracurricular activities. And dress style. And other things. But if he were to condemn a guy for a bit of eccentricity, he'd have to pretty much give up on the entire Caribbean. Either way, no guy should be in a condition like this.
The basket from Mays is next to the bed, filled with a myriad of random goods which, while nice, are utterly generic. Guybrush wonders if Mays is even aware of the seriousness of this guy's state. If they even care beyond the publicity stunt.
He remembers the last time he was in a position like this, standing over the dying form of Morgan LeFlay. When he thinks about it, that had been the first time he'd been in a position like that, watching a friend dying before his eyes. He's a young guy, too. Doesn't even live the life of a pirate, with death always just around the corner.
He shouldn't be here.
He sighs. He supposes he should get on with the rest of his deliveries. But.. well, things stay fresh where he keeps them. Another minute or two couldn't hurt.

The spell flickers over her bandaged self before fading completely as she looked down upon her friend, using her monitor as a support. After all, it took concentration to keep it up for longer than it would otherwise. But she couldn't focus. Not... in seeing a new friend like this.
'I failed to protect the ones I care about again... didn't I.'
She carefully reaches out with a partially-burned hand, ignoring her own pain for a moment once again. Just to...try and help as much as she could with what she has. A small yellow-green light appeared in her open palm before petals and leafs falling from a magical pink flower fell over them. Were he awake, he probably would have recognized the petals as the same that appear when she summons her blade. It isn't much, of course... but at least their wounds were slightly less serious.
Aqua didn't care if she got yelled at later; she just couldn't sit by and do nothing for someone she couldn't help.
"...I'm sorry, Yu," she whispered under her breath, leaning a bit more onto the monitor for support. "I couldn't make it in time. I just... hope someone else did."
She's silent for a long while, not allowing herself to show how she feels; how she wants to cry because it wasn't just him, but her other friends, too. She'd only been able to keep a few standing... Just like...
"Hey... Don't sleep in too long, okay?"
Don't you dare slip away...
closed for obvious reasons...
It likely took quite some time for a slight tug, those quiet words to call him here. To a place he'd only seen once before in the blur of his own 'dreams'. Where fog did not clear, and the route was paved in a crimson and black that contrasted the white mists. Some portions were more solid, of course, but the strange calm that this place gave made it seem as though even the less stable footing was sure to never give way beneath the footsteps.
She waited patiently, even if she were only a faint silhouette in the white. It was his consciousness that needed to become aware of his surroundings, after all.

...this place... his dream, the vision...
"...Izanami?" Yu whispered softly, turning around to try and find the goddess.
YOU ASKED FOR IT...
"Narukami." Her voice was stronger, though distant as if she were further ahead.

Gifts that were utterly useless to him, when things like this happened. It made him feel useless, as there wasn't anything he could think to do for the poor human. Well, nothing he'd be willing to do, at least. One possibility did cross his mind, but he quickly dismissed it; if he did it wrong, it might be ineffective at best, or outright dangerous at worst, and he was no doctor. One of his brothers was, but not him.
Useless.
It hurt, seeing a human in such a state. It really did. No matter how often he saw injuries in the Citadel's hospital, no matter how many times he saw that that brother of his could help them, it always made his stomach twist a bit. Not just because it was weak when it came to such things, but from guilt that he couldn't really help the way he wanted, even if he could stand to look. Useless, useless!
He closed his eyes, taking a breath, willing himself to calm down and pull himself together, and found a feather that was loose, a larger one, over a foot long, and about half a foot wide. He ran his fingers over it, making sure the barbs were neatly locked together, before he reached over and set it down on the blanket, where it would be out of the way of those who knew better than he did, how to care for the human.
He reached around himself with his wings again in a sort of hug, silent another moment, listening to the beep of the heartbeat monitor. He'll be all right, he told himself, hoping.
Wishing that the big feather really would have some sort of magical properties to protect and bring good fortune, as the humans' superstitions dictated, where he was from, he turned to leave again.
