Something Old, Something New

▼ When it is darkest, men see the stars...(13th hour)

The night sky once again turned red as the 13th hour hit the city. By now it was almost too easy to accept it. The moon (or what was of it up there) shone, affecting the monster population in subtle ways.

By now, even the strange events which had happened almost seemed a little too common. The pulls from a new building, or the odd creatures that showed up and increased the population for that hour gave rise to new oppertunities; both good and bad.

To keep the population safe, the mayor had asked the city to stay inside that night and let the city police and visitors do their job, despite the dividing population on this issue. For the most part, there wouldn't be much resistance.

Each night, the sky was always filled with at least one or two signs of something new, and people were ushered inside buildings as much as possible.

Who knew. Maybe tonight you'd get lucky.

▼ Ode of the Newcomer

You're not in your homeworld anymore. That much is evident. So how do you feel? Happy? Sad? Troubled? A little of all three? No matter what, the memories of a butterfly man named Philemon are fading like a dream; you'll remember the details, but perhaps not everything he has said. What time you showed here seems to be as random as everything else; if you were lucky it was during the day, if not, well the 13th hour was rather dangerous. Fortunately, there was a high chance you'd be spotted quickly.

...hopefull anyway.

There is one word that stays with you, however.

Persona.

So...here to save the city, huh? First you'll need to find out more information. And who knows, maybe a familiar face or two...

[(Make sure you read it!) This is a dual log, both 13th hour, or newcomer posts (we're testing it out to see this works well or not.)

This will be up to you on what you want to do; start a new post where you can character's name and OPEN and write the days they'll be wandering during the 13th hour.

If you are a newcomer, write OPEN and what hour they arrived. It can be the 13th hour if you want too!

Join other people's post, do some exploration, post them fighting monsters and just have some fun leveling up / interacting! For this log, you can level up persona, but not in the same thread and the same day, IC-wise. Please do not abuse this. The conditions is that the fighting must happen on different days. The threads should be long enough that an attack is possible and shouldn't just be a few comments just for the sake of leveling up (Ie, we want effort in them, as much as you would with a normal log.).

If you submitted a building and it was accepted, feel free to start a post with them discovering it! The original owners who submitted will be the first to see them, due to a strange pull that made they feel like they NEEDED to go to that area. What they do with this information is up to them; they can contact others in their group, start exploring by themselves or allow the thread to be open for others to come in with them...it's all up to you. That next morning, the government will be coming over to analyze them (that will be done offscreen, however).

FOR THE CREATURES 1) The creatures have to be in the Beastary for you to use them. You don't need to use creatures from your own home worlds either, as long as someone's put in a creature in there! Also, make sure your characters could logically take on the creatures you pick let's not have them take down a giant creature when they couldn't normally.]

"We shall see if they can possess their own corpses then!" He growls, smashing the barrel of his bolter nose-first into an ING before exploding it with a 3 round burst, covering himself in goo.

Samus seems amused by his comment, and even more she is surprised by his more than ready violence towards the creatures.

"As far as I'm aware, they can't."

When the bounty hunter notices a particularly thick swarm of the Ing forming, she braces herself on the ground, before she jumps up in the air and tumbles forward. Her Screw Attack function kicks in and tears through the creatures as she rolls through the air, cutting through their numbers.

Loken's bolter runs dry, and he mag-clamps it to his leg, drawing a short blade to accompany his chainsword that for anyone else would be about as large as a broadsword. He sweeps in and smashes them with both blades and his own heavy armor-plated body, using it like a bludgeon, now, howling with anger.

"Good."

Samus lands on the ground with a heavy metal thud, and she turns to watch Garviel's fury as he smashes into the creatures. His wrath was terrible... He must have been fierce on the battlefield.

One Ing lunging at him from behind doesn't stand much of a chance as Samus kneels down and charges up a shot, firing at the creature and sending it reeling backwards. "I've got your back!"

Garviel nods appreciation, then offers a suggestion,"Excellent. Back to back then, and work in a combat wheel left to right." He grunts, trying to take control of the tactical situation from the swarm of Ing. He's suggesting a methodical pattern of fighting, a left to right assault that will kill one Ing at a time while they guard each other.

Loken isn't sure she'll go for it, as she seems content to fight on her own, but he'll offer the option, since he himself is used to massed battle working with entire squads at a time, rather than individual undertakings. Well, until very recently. Of late he's become something of a singular operative himself, much to his own dismay.

His chainsword churns, fouled with Ing meat and ichor, now more of a club than a sword, though his short blade is still sharp and eager to cut.

Samus is, of course, the opposite from Garviel. While she'd been a lone space hunter for years now, she'd served in the police force and military before. It was her preference to work alone, but if necessary she could work with others in a battle.

So the hunter joins him, back to back, taking heed to his tactics. This way, not only could the be efficient, but she they could protect each other from being possessed by the Ing.

"This sounds like the best method at the moment. I'd prefer it if we avoided being possessed at all costs."

"If I am taken, kill me." He huffs, his blades twin flickers of silver as he sweeps to the right, wheeling with Samus as they confront and kill Ing as they move.

The grim warrior apparently has a most exacting code, though, fortunately for him, his hypno-conditioned mind is fairly resistant to this sort of thing.

Samus grits her teeth. She wasn't going to let that happen, she was already responsible for killing two of her comrades due to a situation like this, possibly a third if her intuition was correct...

"Let's hope it doesn't come to that."

She would much rather attempt to restrain him than to kill him... but his size and strength likely didn't leave that as an option.

Indeed not. Fortunately, between the two of them, they are able to make fairly short work of the remaining Ing. Loken's chest heaves in his armor after the battle is finished, stinking of a mixture of sweet-scented oils (no really! Canon!), and the hydraulic fluids of his armor, mixed with the reeking ichor of the Ing.

"Another field of victory." Loken says, something like bitterness inflecting his deep voice.

Samus straightens up after the Ing are eliminated, scanning the area for more. Her visor wasn't picking up anymore enemies in the vicinity, but there could be more lurking elsewhere....

"For now... I won't be able to rest easy until I know where they came from, however. The Ing pose a serious threat to those in Hinoto-Ri if their numbers are allowed to grow..." Hopefully her hunch about their appearance during the Thirteenth Hour was correct. If not, they could be facing an army in a matter of days...

"Good point. We should spread out and purge any remaining Ing that we come across." He says, as he clears some of the Ing-bits out of his chainsword, gunning it to life once it has been unjammed once more, splattering his armor with another thin splash of gore and ichor. He nods, content that it is functional again, before sheathing both his weapons and reloading his boltgun, ready to move out.

Well... all of that ichor was one of the reasons she preferred to use projectile weapons, such as her beam and missiles. Samus brushes at some of the gore that was splashed onto her own suit, some of it coming from her Screw Attack, some coming from Garviel's literal bloodbath. She'd have to clean it later.

"We can continue to patrol the area... Cerberus, do you know where they could be coming from?"

Loken reaches up, removing his helm, and scents the air almost like an animal.

"Let me get a moment to take in their stink, I'll track them back through that."

And in that moment, something almost feral shows in his face. A hunter's instinct, though perhaps different from the sort that Samus has.

Samus watches him curiously... There was something more animalistic about his behavior than her own. While she relied upon deductive reasoning and technology to hunt her foes, he tracked them more as a carnivore would.

"You have a heightened sense of smell, then..." Her own senses were heightened as well, due to the alteration of her DNA, but not to the level he seemed to be displaying.

"Yes. All Astartes do. Not as strong as the Space Wolves do, nor as attuned to Blood as Sanguinius' brood, but I can track by Scent"

A few more sniffs, and he nods,

"I've got them. If there more about I'll be able to scent them now."

He frowns, then asks, "They don't used ranged weapon or aim specifically for the head, do they?"

Samus taps her own helmet gently.

"If you sense any closing in, I would suggest putting on your headgear. The Ing occasionally send out harmful laser blasts... and without proper protection, they could invade and even take over your body. My suit is designed to repel invasive creatures like the Ing."

She brandishes her cannon in a warning sign. If Garviel were to fall to these creatures, she wouldn't hesitate to finish him.

"My mind has certain defenses against such things. The only thing that may be of concern is if they bring up certain old... memories."

Even so, he pointedly will remember to put his helmet on before entering into combat with them again.

"I'm unaware of their affects on the mind... From what I can tell it's simply a complete takeover, instantly killing the host. I've never been successfully possessed by the Ing. The only soldiers I've seen them possess were deceased, and the only sentient beings they've taken over being the Space Pirates."

Zombie soldiers, not much fun to fight against.

"You have a strong will, though... I doubt they could overwhelm you so easily, Cerberus."
