▼ When it is darkest, men see the stars...(13th hour)

The night sky once again turned red as the 13th hour hit the city. By now it was almost too easy to accept it. The moon (or what was of it up there) shone, affecting the monster population in subtle ways.

By now, even the strange events which had happened almost seemed a little too common. The pulls from a new building, or the odd creatures that showed up and increased the population for that hour gave rise to new oppertunities; both good and bad.

To keep the population safe, the mayor had asked the city to stay inside that night and let the city police and visitors do their job, despite the dividing population on this issue. For the most part, there wouldn't be much resistance.

Each night, the sky was always filled with at least one or two signs of something new, and people were ushered inside buildings as much as possible.

Who knew. Maybe tonight you'd get lucky.

▼ Ode of the Newcomer

You're not in your homeworld anymore. That much is evident. So how do you feel? Happy? Sad? Troubled? A little of all three? No matter what, the memories of a butterfly man named Philemon are fading like a dream; you'll remember the details, but perhaps not everything he has said. What time you showed here seems to be as random as everything else; if you were lucky it was during the day, if not, well the 13th hour was rather dangerous. Fortunately, there was a high chance you'd be spotted quickly.

...hopefull anyway.

There is one word that stays with you, however.

Persona.

So...here to save the city, huh? First you'll need to find out more information. And who knows, maybe a familiar face or two...

[(Make sure you read it!) This is a dual log, both 13th hour, or newcomer posts (we're testing it out to see this works well or not.)

This will be up to you on what you want to do; start a new post where you can character's name and OPEN and write the days they'll be wandering during the 13th hour.

If you are a newcomer, write OPEN and what hour they arrived. It can be the 13th hour if you want too!

Join other people's post, do some exploration, post them fighting monsters and just have some fun leveling up / interacting! For this log, you can level up persona, but not in the same thread and the same day, IC-wise. Please do not abuse this. The conditions is that the fighting must happen on different days. The threads should be long enough that an attack is possible and shouldn't just be a few comments just for the sake of leveling up (Ie, we want effort in them, as much as you would with a normal log.).

If you submitted a building and it was accepted, feel free to start a post with them discovering it! The original owners who submitted will be the first to see them, due to a strange pull that made they feel like they NEEDED to go to that area. What they do with this information is up to them; they can contact others in their group, start exploring by themselves or allow the thread to be open for others to come in with them...it's all up to you. That next morning, the government will be coming over to analyze them (that will be done offscreen, however).

FOR THE CREATURES 1) The creatures have to be in the Beastary for you to use them. You don't need to use creatures from your own home worlds either, as long as someone's put in a creature in there! Also, make sure your characters could logically take on the creatures you pick let's not have them take down a giant creature when they couldn't normally.]

"And who are you to say what choice I do or don't have in the matter?"

Because he reeeaaaally ain't liking your tone, random person, given the way he's currently full-on glaring.

"Someone who's stuck in the same situation as you."

After a pause, he continues.

"But no one, really." He doesn't seem to mind the glaring that much. It's not his father, so he's not scared of this guy.

"Really?"

He does some sort of change; the glare's gone, and he lifts his chin a bit. Not enough that his other eye was visible, but enough to make a difference. An almost curious look comes to his face, as he touches his chin in though with his thumb and forefinger.

"How did you deal with your entire family life being a facade? How did you feel when you learned that all of your efforts were orchestrated by beings beyond your control and in the end all you had worked for had failed? What did you do when you were then requisitioned by one of those very forces once more immediately as you thought you could finally correct every mistake you'd made in your life?"

... A lot of that strikes close to home. He flinches, taking a step backwards.

"Look. Maybe it's not exactly the same, but I don't even know what I'm like offline. I only barely remember my family and what I do remember isn't good. I don't even know what gender I am offline. As for things out of my control? I was trapped by an insane AI in a game for six months. She wiped out almost all of my memories and I even died and was dragged back to life."

He's never told someone about this so frankly, but this guy is making him a little mad. He points his staff at him.

"I didn't go through what you did. But you didn't go through what I did either. What I meant was that we're both trapped in this city, and you knew what I meant."

The staff hardly got more than a bat of his eye; in fact, Jun stood there hardly reacting to it, and simply brought up his hand to push away the tip of the staff as if it was a loose cobweb in his way.

He had to admit, some of those parts stung a little back. He certainly wasn't any less angry, but the way he spoke was a lot more composed-- probably because he had someone to argue with at the moment.

"Oh please. I don't know what this 'offline' talk of yours is, but this putrid city is the least of my concerns. If you had so many problems, you should consider your arrival a liberation. I only see a curse haunting me."

"Offline. As in not online. As in this body is from a computer game, not my real body."

... He doesn't have time for this. He doesn't have time or patience for this. Subaru could handle this guy, but he's not Subaru.

He lowers his staff, glaring a bit.

"This place is a lot better than a lot of places you could be. At least you have your own mind right now - that's something to be grateful for."

Well, he'd never heard of that before. But given the things he'd actually done, he supposed it wasn't impossible. But he simply met Tsukasa's glare with an expression of flippant distaste.

"One's own 'mind' is a fine line." ...Though he, suddenly looked like this definitely wasn't a topic he wanted to or was going to talk about. "Are you trying to suggest you have someone else's right now? Or are you putting too much weight into matter over mind?"

"Not really. The me that you see shouldn't exist. Not as itself. But I've lost control over my own mind before. It's not hard. So you should be happy that you can at least control your own body and your own thoughts."

Remembering that time he'd spent in the clearing was... horrible. He didn't want to ever go back to that blank greyness, that inability to even do something like move.

"So have I."

And suddenly all at once, Jun just sort of...deflated. His anger seemed to all drain out, and his expression look like a dead man walking. You'd almost think he was completely disinterested, if it wasn't for his anger just a moment before.

"It's like a horrible nightmare you can't seem to wake from. But then, given the waking world, perhaps it's not so bad."

Tsukasa's eyes widened. Someone else who understood, even a little... it was a little too much to hope for. But maybe...

"And even when you break free, you're not sure who you are anymore. And it hurts, and you almost want to go back to feeling nothing at all..."

But he hadn't had time. And now time was all he had.

"But in the end, who's to say what was you and what wasn't?"

It was kind of...creepy, the way he said that with almost an absolute monotone. A monotone that was far too effective to be natural.

Honestly, right now, he felt like it would be better to be a homicidal maniac.

"Yeah."

Tsukasa looked down, holding tightly to his staff. "I... yeah. Here... that hasn't happened though. Not yet at least."

He seemed to lower his head a bit, closing his eyes not in some sort of depression, but in thought. Whatever he was turning over in his head, he opened his eyes and looked up again a moment later before he spoke.

"You'll be fine, I'm sure. To wield a Persona properly requires a strong sense of self. To make it beyond Philemon's realm would almost assure your safety, in this case."

Plus the fact that this world isn't digital, but hey, who's counting.

"Ah?"

He shook his head a little. He still wasn't sure what his 'self' is. It was someone, which was more than just thinking of himself as a nothing, but the truths behind his existence in the real world still were yet to be uncovered.

... But he had time, didn't he? Time to enjoy being like this again, without crazy AIs or mind-bending horror.

"Mm. I still don't know what this Persona thing is. I've seen a few people mention it on the network, but... I don't know."

"A manifestation of the inner self; a physical representation of your psyche. It's supposed to protect you; reflect who you are."

There's a rather aloof tone to his voice while he explained it, but what else is new.

"That's... weird. And everyone has one, I guess?" How can he even have one he doesn't really know who he actually is.

"Everyone that's come here through Philemon's realm, yes. That seems to be the case," He said with a simple shrug. Though he says the next part practically dripping disdain.

"I suppose the qualification standards may have dropped."

And you have now swung back to the annoyance part of the spectrum. Good job Jun.

"Maybe they have. It's not like I've really seen the guy to ask him questions, aside from that weird dream I had before I woke up here."

Hey he don't even caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare

"It's a shame; if he weren't such a coward, we would actually be able to inquire about it ourselves."

Hm...

"Keep an eye out for something called the Velvet Room. That might be the only way we could get anyway..."

Jerrrrrrrk.

"I will."

Not that he's super eager to go interrogating mysterious people again. That led to brainbreak last time.
